Yes. It's just silly to second-guess it. Even directors who say "oh this prequel is what I would've made first if I'd had the chance, I intend this to be the new first movie"...they released that movie to an audience who the vast majority HAD SEEN THE ORIGINAL before the prequel. There's NO WAY the prequel isn't going to work after seeing the originals. You can't go wrong with release order, it's how every other adult who cared about the franchise saw it!

And it's impossible to explain how incredible this was in 1977. Movies in the mid 70's were gritty and bleak. It’s hard to understate just how big Star Wars was in ‘77 when it was released. I was 7 at the time, probably in that perfect age range to become addicted, saw it over 2 dozen times. But, to be fair, pretty much everyone had Star Wars mania, you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing something. A cup, plate, toys, napkin, frozen food, tool, birthday cake, record, comic, billboard, commercial, t-shirt, pajamas (adults included), everything. Even my mom had a “May the Force be with you” button on her purse, next to it later was the “Who shot JR?” one. 14:45 he isn’t “breathing”, his suit is, think of it sort of like an iron lung. He can speak at any time independently of it. And don’t ask why this is the case, we can’t tell you, spoilers. Geez, edits: It often helps those new to it to use the way the names were written in the script, I have a feeling the actors had a difficult time as well: R2-D2: Artoo C3-PO: Threepio Jawas are desert scavengers, you leave your phone sitting around and it’s GONE. One that might help, Leia’s surname is Organa, her father’s name is (was) Bail. “Only imperial storm troops are so precise”. Um, yea, about that, ima gonna go with a … no.

1. Sir. Alec Guinness/Obi-Wan didn't want the part. Being a Shakespearian actor, he thought the entire idea was silly and was beneath him, but his wife talked him into taking the part. 2. The shrug Chewy gives Luke after he scares the tiny black droid is 🤣 3. These movies were put out in a certain order because there was limited technology and Lucas used and pushed forward the images needed to make a quality product. The best way to watch the is in the order they came out. We had to wait years for the next one. There was no internet where we had access to them whenever we wanted. 4. No need to go into anything after VI. Disney took over and the quality dropped. I realize you have to. 5. The only CGI was put in for the 25th anniversary package in this film are the critters the stormtroopers were riding at the beginning of the search for the robots, a couple of the huge critters outside the pub, the scene with Jabba the Hutt and other minor changes. Those were put in later after CGI was available. Otherwise, everything is what we had in 1977. 6. Obi-Wan sacrificed himself after he told Vader he would be stronger than ever. He went back into the force. He knows it's Luke's job to take over. 7. The awkwardness in the detention space is because Ford didn't know his lines. It was kept in the movie anyway because it worked. 8. IMVHO the next two are the best of the series. Enjoy

Speaking of Buzz Lightyear and the Star Wars franchise, George had tried to sell Star Wars to Universal Studios and The Walt Disney Company. Both companies turned him down. That is fairly obvious, since no Disney or Universal Studios logos are shown before the movie. I just think Disney turning the movie down in the early to mid 70’s is a pretty wild story considering their purchase of the franchise decades later.

When George Lucas was in initial negotiations with 20th Century Fox, he stipulated that he would receive 100% of merchandise profits. To that point, the movie industry was not nearly as heavily engaged in merchandising as they are, now. So, executives at 20th Century Fox readily agreed to grant George all merchandise profits.

There's a story about the red droid (R5-D4), that is Skippy the Jedi Droid, and it wasn't that that droid was a Jedi, it was just that it was malfunctioning to the point of being delusional. When the moment came in the movie that C-3OP should continue its journey with R2-D2, he got out of the way by damaging itself. However, the the extended universe, which is not canon now, a histotian called Voren Na'al, bought R5-D4, repaired it and kept it as his astrodroid, so in that story there was a happy ending for "the red one" as it found a master who took care of it.

It is one of my pet peeves that occurs in many movies that a character's name gets pronounced in different ways. This happens in real life but is jarring in a movie. It is part of continuity and is often missed. Perhaps the worst offender in a great movie is in the Christmas film "The Bishop's Wife" (1947) in which nearly every character pronounces the Bishop's name differently.

@mattp60892 сағат бұрын
There's no argument whatsoever about the order. Original Trilogy is the must watch! Then Prequel Trilogy if you want to, then Sequel Trilogy if you absolutely must. (I wouldn't recommend it!) But my personal biases aside, the release order makes it so the reveals of what the Force is, what a lightsaber is, what the Empire is, how this universe works, and most importantly the emotional beats and 'spoilery' knowledge reveals all align the way they are supposed to. If you watch Episode 1 first, you get thrown into stuff about Republics and Jedi and the Force and what have you much more rapidly. So the series should be watched in release order. R2-D2 is Star Wars, that's absolutely right. Especially for this first movie where Artoo and Threepio are actually the characters the movie follows and are present at all major locations. In this movie, Obi-Wan's assessment of Stormtroopers being very accurate is correct. What so many people don't realise is that for Tarkin to be allowing the Falcon crew to escape in order to track them, all of those Stormtroopers that failed to capture or kill our heroes were missing on purpose. In subsequent movies, there's no excuse! Biggs and Wedge in Final Fantasy are a Final Fantasy tribute to Biggs and Wedge in Star Wars, just to be clear!

When R2-D2 and C-3PO walk across the corridor while the storm troopers are shooting, everyone assumes the storm troopers couldn’t hit anything. When in actuality, there’s such good shots, they were aiming at the people with the guns and not the droids.. see that makes sense to me, but everyone always assumes that they’re terrible shots even when later on in the movie, Obi-Wan Kenobi talks about how precise the blasts were on the jaw crawler and only storm troopers could be that precise.
@ronweber14023 күн бұрын
Ya then in the rest of the movies the Storm Troopers couldn't hit anything if they were standing 4 feet away from it. Now the reasoning I've heard is that the Empire, while prolific, was also cheap. Cheap, mass produced weapons that were inaccurate or prone to malfunction and substandard training relying more on fear and multitudinous forces doing the work rather than expertise and superior technology. Looking at it now it is eerily similar to Russia's strategy in Ukraine.
