In case anyone is wondering. YES I did tune on every antenna with every radio when It was connected with and without the 3.5 mm connection. Why would I not tune using the AM Loop Antenna? I chose not to show the actual tuning on video. Otherwise the video would run a lot longer. Thank you for watching. :)

Great comparisons of the antennas. I don't have any of those, but I have a Radio Shack AM loop antenna (15-1853). It was made in the early 2000's, but it still works. Have a good day Danny.

I don't have that antenna. I may have to look into that one. I would consider the Radio Shack AM loop antenna under the vintage category along with the Select A Tenna. Thank you for the comment and watching. Have a good day Sir. :)

Great video! Something I found that works pretty well is to connect the Tecsun or the Terk advantage loop to the radios via inductance and then plug an external long wire into the 3.5 mm jack of the antenna.
@dannyshortwave5 жыл бұрын
That is interesting to know. I believe to had tried that long ago, I don't recall seeing a difference. I may have to try that again. Thank you for the suggestion and watching my video. Have a great day Jeff. :)

I have experience with the terk and tecsun. haven't really tried them with the gp5 but I have used them with my techsun 880 pl and Grundig Satelitt 800. The Terk is an impressive loop finally have the AM signals coming in clearly in my basement bedroom.
@dannyshortwave4 жыл бұрын
Yes I would try them on the GP5. The Terk is an impressive loop except it doesn't cover beyond 1620 khz. You have some great radios for Mediumwave listening. Thank you for watching this video. Have a good day. :)

Also I took a paint roller handle without the cylinder and cut a cheap piece of plywood to fit inside the area inside of the paint handle. I drilled holes along the edges of the plywood and zip tied them to the paint roller handle. Then I marked mounting screws on the plywood and mounted the Justice antenna onto the paint roller. A broom stick screwed at the end of the handle and mounted correctly and now the Justice antenna is DIRECTIONAL!!!

I know you mentioned that you calibrated the antennas. It would be great if you could explain how to calibrate the tecsun plug on top antenna that comes with the small radio. I know they're are 2 knobs we can use to calibrate but i can't figure out how to set the left vs the right knob. Thanks for your video

When I used to live on a lake with lots of room I strung out two wires about 350 feet each and connected them to a 120 turn homemade coil of 26 AWG magnet wire on a paper towel tube and placed it near my portable radios. In NW Louisiana I could hear Dallas, Houston, New Orleans and Oklahoma City at noon during the day. I went from only 3 AM stations to about 50 during the day. I currently have three small AM/FM/Shortwave radios...a Grungig G6, an Eton Elite Traveler and a Tecsn PL 310 et. The Tecsun has horrible reception on AM and shortwave isn`t nearly as good as the other two. The Eton and Grundig are amazing radios and very sensitive. The Tecsun isn`t as good as the other two on AM even when using a loop. I wasted my money on that junk. It also uses three AA batteries which is awkward to even attempt to do since I only use rechargeable batteries. I bought the AC adapter so I could charge batteries inside it but thankfully I didn`t waste any more money buying batteries for it because it isn`t worth using except for FM. But the radio is unusable with the AC adapter because it doesn`t provide enough power to even run the radio on FM. Total junk!

I wish I can put more than 200 feet of wire. My property isn't that big. I have to try that coil. I was meaning to make one someday. I don't use my Tecsun radios much since I bought the XHDATA D-808 and Radiwow R-108. Happy Holidays. :)
@tomjones2395 жыл бұрын
@@dannyshortwave I noticed that the Tecsun was finding stations when I did searches but I couldn`t hear them. I tried headphones and AM works great that way. If I tune 1kz off frequency it defeats soft mute. I don`t like listening with headphones but it works very well that way. Very strange. Also, at first shortwave was weak but it started working. I couldn`t return the radio because I live almost 2 hours from the nearest UPS store and the Tecsun company was very rude and refused to help me.

I am disappointed that the 3.5 jacks didn't work well. I don't know what cable you used. Might a higher quality cable, maybe shielded help? I honestly don't know much about radios in general. I only recently found out about inductance. I always thought buying a radio with an external am jack was garanteed to be better since they are rare. That might not be the case if inductance works better. What do you think after doing these tests?
@voxfan7403 Жыл бұрын
An AM antenna's effectiveness depends on its orientation relative to the station. You are not using the same orientation with all antennae.
@dannyshortwave Жыл бұрын
No matter where I try to orient the antenna, it wasn't that good. I tried to justify the sensitivity of this antenna and I can tell you that all the AM loop antennas outperformed this ferrite rod antenna plus I stand by my review. This antenna is overpriced compared to all my AM indoor loop antennas. I still own this antenna, I still prefer my AM loop antennas if i'm serious about AM DXing a station. Thank you for watching. Have a good day.

I must agree that the European-made ferrite loopstick is very expensive, but its advantage is portability. I am considering one to use with my CC Pocket when away from home.
@raymondward5629 Жыл бұрын
Do you have a CCrane Justice antenna? Look it up!!! Also Superadio 2, Grundig Satellit 750 or Eton equivalent with Justice antenna combo.

I would like to own one, however the price is a bit too high for me. I'm looking to buy a used one on ebay someday. Thank you for watching.

Nicely done, Danny. In your notes, you warned to be cautious when purchasing the Select-A-Tenna from the famous online source. Were you just talking in general terms, or is there something in particular to watch out for regarding this model?
@dannyshortwave2 жыл бұрын
I need to make a video on that because someone posted a message about fake select-a-tenna being sold. There are some differences. I will have look into that. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.

When you say "you have to be careful when you buy a Select A Tenna on ebay", what do you have to watch out for?
@dannyshortwave Жыл бұрын
I heard that people sold a fake version of that loop antenna especially on ebay.
@DonzLockz2 жыл бұрын
The white ferrite rod should have worked better via inductance with both antenna's parallel with each other. I was interested in getting one but now I'm not sure. You sound like my buddy from the Bronks, I kept thinking you were him. Lol
@dannyshortwave2 жыл бұрын
That was my point, the loops did a much better job for the price of that ferrite bar. Although I like the ferrite bar, it doesn't easily mount on top of some radios. The loops can stand next to a radio and work well. Also the maker of that PVC ferrite has recently passed away. I don't think anyone else is making that pvc ferrite bar and selling them on ebay. Thank you for watching. Yes I grew up in the Bronx and moved to Yonkers a few years ago. Have a great day. 😊

Hello did you tied to put ythe radio INSIDE the loops ? I also use the AN200 since 11 and MANY TIMES i i put this way for the maximum level

@dannyshortwave2 жыл бұрын
Yes I do that also. Depends on the size of the radio. I usually have my radios on a stand and have the loop next to it or right behind it. Thank you for watching. Have a great day Zach. 😊

I think you should use both your gray brain cells when you conduct this experiment, mast to maximize the results? Don’t try to use ferrite antenna in vertical position ?
