Sv650 Crash Blood Mountain

Low sided on the famous Blood Mountain, I did not know the turns too well and went too fast. Would have made it if i did not freak out and press the breaks...... but i did.

I grew up on Blood Mountain, seen a lot of visitors die. Your bike took out a white cross around that turn, it's there for a reason. Glad you're okay and a good rule of thumb is chill until you know the turns. Good luck!

You might want to check out Keith Code's book and DVD called A Twist of the Wrist. It is a great guide to cornering. I had a close call similar to yours (not very far from Blood Mountain, as a matter of fact) when I first started riding. It helped me really learn how to corner. Glad you made it out relatively okay. Maybe I'll see you up on the mountain sometime soon.

Typical target fixation. Panic and hit the brakes. Trust your bike. Keep leaning. you would have made it. then slow down. Also get some more gear. Padded riding pants, full jacket and boots. Glad you were okay, but you really lucked out. i bet it was a bitch to get that bike out.

I pressed on the breaks thats what made my bike stand up while in the turn, before i realized or correct myself i already hit the gravel.

1st rule of being in an accident, you don't tell people you're good until you've checked to see if all your fingers are there, no blood running down your head, no gashes anywhere, etc. For the first few dozen seconds you may not even realize anything is wrong because you are only feeling the shock impact and phantom pain from a piece of you that's "missing". Additionally, sit the fvck down because you can lose consciousness right after you took your helmet off and have a head injury THEN hitting the pavement or a rock. Let other people assess whether you're doing okay or going into shock because they're far more aware of your status for the next few minutes.

Pro tip: hanging off the bike will let you corner faster and harder. Don't get all crossed up (ass off the seat, torso centered). Your helmet cam seems to indicate you're leaning the bike a ton, but not moving your body properly to minimize lean angle. Glad you're okay, hopefully the bike wasn't too bashed up either.

Dude, I don't fucking believe it. about 4 hours ago I crashed my 06 cbr1000rr at the SAME turn you did. I recognize the 2 crosses on the tree. it got me the same exact way. first time too on the mountains. I however fell down the ditch but escaped eith soreness and cuts. I look up and see 2 crosses. glad you're safe man. I had to tow my bike up btw. absolutely totaled. frame is broken.

Never understood why some riders choose to ride with a helmet and gloves, yet do not wear any other form of safety protection... The back protector wont save your other limbs from damage. You were very lucky, done that myself and got away with very minor bruising (Through full textile armoured gear)....

Damn a couple of people died there look at all the memorial crosses at 0:44... not to mention all those tire marks leading off the road from that turn. Must be a hell of a dangerous corner. Consider yourself lucky. They should really put up a guard rail on that section.

Ouch hope you not to bruised.Your right hand bar looked pushed forward on approach so oversteering round bend running on left side of front tyre which is why bike ran wide right .Try pushing left bar forward, bike will drop left and steer left tightly round bend try it amazing difference!

before the fall probably had to lay down the bike below, the road is good and the speed was not great, and would then not fall. I had a similar situation but my motorcycle flew so far and the reason was the small stones by the roadside where I braked without seeing them.

Typical shock behavior - acting like nothing happened talking the same lines. I had an accident similar like this and my phone rang right after. I was talking on the phone in the middle of the traffic. You could have cranked it a bit more.. Good thing you are OK you'll fix the metal and plastics. Ride safe!

Golden rule of motorcycling bud - set your speed before going into a corner. Better off to be too slow and have to speed up..... Anyway looks like you were ok so all the best. If you are a junior rider always remember "for now, you only have to race yourself no one else".

sorry, but your riding a bike all wrong and your going to get hurt really bad..your just staying up straight on the bike and pushing then handlebars down left and right to make turns..haven't you ever seen the pros ride..you need to get your body off to the sides of the bike in the corners..the bike should stay more straight and you should be the one hanging off the sides..it's why you couldn't turn in that corner..you were sitting up straight on the bike..your center of gravity was way too high..you should have your body low and even drag your knee..move your body or quit riding!

Steve Brooks That works better on tracks than on public roads where you can't depend on being able to lean that far in turns due to random gravel, twigs, oil, ice, water puddle, whatever. On public roads you have to make a pass through the same curve shortly earlier or take it slower, or else you may go great on 99 curves then you get to the one in this video.

TheDemitirus Yeah but it doesn't matter, you can't depend on being able to take a turn that sharp on public roads due to water/ice/oil/gravel/etc. unless you make a first pass to survey the road condition at low speed. It may work once, twice, even 100 times but this guy who wrecked has also probably made hundreds of curves then this ONE got him. It only takes one to ruin your day/month/year/life.

Yeah but leaning off the bike makes it safer anyway because you have less lean angle meaning more traction/stability for when there is gravel on the road or some shit on the road

You should thank god/whatever else because you got out of that pretty cheaply . 3 month ago I was in a similar situation like your's , but the difference in my situation is that i crashed into a guard rail and my left fot stuck at the rear wheel so I dragged with my bike and my left leg is broken . Seens than i'm home :\ watching other crashes . be carful guys bike can be awsome and such a fun hobby but when you ride in a public areas take extra safty becasue there is no place for any mistake .
