SVARAM | Sonic Stones - Chitra

This is our younger, smaller and more accessible model of the standard sound stones. It has only 7 lamellas (whereas the Uttara has a complete 12 and Mulam 9-11). It is kind of a female counterpart to the more male Mulam and naturally reaches higher frequencies more; it and can also be played by smaller and finer hands.
As with all the other stones the real potential of the sound and its unfolding depends very much on the opening of the mineral ‘pores’ so to say, on the responsiveness of the material, which can only be harnessed through extensive playing with a listening and sensory dedication. It seems almost like a miracle how the stones then come alive, opening their full spectrum and the astounding richness of the mineral sound vibrations.

Crystal bowls sound exactly the same. But use a mallet to resonate the sound from the material instead of using the hands. I can imagine these sounds being used on Sci-fi sound scores.

They have a different sound texture and character from crystal bowls and it is best to avoid using mallets on singing stones as they might damage the instrument

The sounds from those stones are so mesmerizing. should there be a certain kind of table that it has to sit on? I'm wondering if it could be used with a metal table?

The sounds produced by the stones are quite captivating! They are not required to sit at any particular kind of table, but in order to maximize resonance, it is crucial to use a solid surface. If a metal table can support the stones' 85 kg weight and offers a stable foundation, it works fine
