The build videos are very well done. I am someone who cares little for such things, but I find myself captivated. These videos are allowing me to identify with the new boat and look forward to every bit of progression. The thing about this channel is I very much relate to the original Delos as a character of sorts. It is hard to say goodbye. Yet slowly getting to know Delos 2.0 is making it easier and even exciting. Thanks for including us step by step in the process!

Hey Greg, that's so cool to hear that you're getting into the build series! And yes Delos is most certainly one of the main characters in our story, absolutely! We're not saying goodbye to her yet, we're actually planning on going back to French Polynesia later in 2025 to start moving her from French Polynesia towards Australia, so we've still got some incredible miles left on her through some of the most beautiful islands in the world!

Spiral flute taps are going to be your best friend, Brian. You wont have to back the tap off to clear the chips, and you wont be left with chips on the bottom of a blind tapped hole when you are done. This is what I use to fabricate parts all day long as a machinist. And, don't let anyone tell you that you can't hand tap spiral flute taps, especially if you get some high quality taps. They hand tap just fine. Yes, high quality spiral flute taps cost more, but breaking taps off in holes is a real pain in the ass, even if you have a CNC machine to mill them out. It can be an absolute nightmare if you don't have such a machine. We use OSG taps in the shop, and that's what I recommend. Additionally, they make ratcheting tap handles, which come in real handy when tapping in confined spaces.

I replaced all of my thru hulls with the Marelon Series 93 seacocks and really love them. The only problem that I had was 3 out of 4 leaked when I launched. The leak in all cases was at the buttress threads between the thru-hull and the flanged seacock. I followed the directions from Forespar to seal the threads. "As with any threaded pipe assembly, Teflon®tape should be applied to the thru-hull threads for a watertight connection." The Teflon tape did not seal the non-tapered buttress threads. I ended up loosening the flange seacock while in the water until only one thread was still engaged. I then smeared in a bunch of paste pipe sealant and retightened the seacock into place. That stopped all leaks. Teflon tape's primary function is to lubricate the threads so that you can screw them farther into the taper to reduce the joint size. With straight threads, this does not work. I think the better way to seal them is to coat the threads with paste pipe sealant and then possibly wrap that with a couple of turns of Teflon tape.
@svdelos9 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for the insight Hayden, will definitely keep this tips in mind if we run into any leaks when we splash!
@haydenwatson79879 күн бұрын
@@svdelos If you installed them with just Teflon Tape, you might consider unscrewing the seacocks and resealing them with pipe dope. The Buttress threads have a lot more slop than regular NPS threads which means that the sealant needs to fill a bigger void. Much less stressful to fix it when on the hard rather than when you are floating.

Love the lines! Being that all boats are compromises it looks like you've done well in keeping a performance design with considerations for cruising and underbody protection which is important for self sufficiency. To solve your leaking bolt issue on the tank covers you could use cap nuts and nylon washers instead of the normal nuts and washers. As for the interior which you design in 3D based on the exact size of the boat the following. A while ago you measured the boat and you were excited to see how accurate the dimensions were kept. Now that the boat is fully welded you might want to measure again. I have seen shrinkage between 0.3% and 0.6%, so it is worth measuring. Merry Christmas. Frank Mulder
