Svetlana is special to me. She is the one who makes me fall in love with Ballet. Before I watched her dance, I never imagined that there could be such beautiful creatures in the world. She never exaggerates her emotions, and I guess that's why people say she is a boring cold dancer. But Zakharova really gives me something that no other ballerinas could give me. That's all I want to say.

No people don’t like her because her forms are too perfect and they like a bit more free form and more flexible movements which would make it more exciting (think about break dancing). But she’s a fantastic actress who always becomes the character. A true artist.

I saw her last year in Carmen Suite, a live broadcast direct from Moscow (Bolshoi) in Pathe Cinema in The Hague. It was honesty breathtaking. There is so much soul and beauty in her dancing, way beyond her perfection. Svetlana Zakharova, a genius for sure.

There is a pretty good chance that she has worked a lot more than any of us have in a couple months than in our entire life. It is really hard on your toes and feet if you have to put a lot of weight on them. What she does is absolutely amazing and takes a lot more work than it seems. Her beautiful dancing and strong body is hard to achieve and shows how hard she has worked to become such a poised and wonderful ballerina.

oh shut up! the woman is a frame the russian school looks for in the petite bone frame and elasticity of the limbs...further, the hours of her constant classes, rehearsals, and performance is tremendous not to mention the pressure to be her performance best with all love for the art...also, there are those who have a metabolic rate that is very high...the eventual lines you all are seeing is the elongation of the muscles over the years of training. NOW look at her control...that is technique over the years mastered and still perfected....enjoy the ballet!

Remember, too, that some body types are naturally very slim; and life as a ballet dancer is like being on a treadmill constantly. Also, with your core, you're constantly pulling in and up, sort of like if you breath your stomach in to the fullest your ribs will show, except that for a dancer this is mainly used on the muscles rather than the skin, but it has the same effect. To be professional, you have to be healthy. Unhealthy bodies mean crushed careers, and Svetlana's career is in full bloom.

She is absolute consumate perfection in terms of technic, and her expressivity has improved a lot (although I've never saw her live). Very skinny indeed, but I'd say it's impossible for her to be anorexic. Anorexic women are so fragile and weak that they can hardly walk for 15mins. Svetlana would be dead if she was any short of Ana/Mia. I mean she's all day, every day in rehearsals, performances, travels... I bet she eats a lot actually. Her body type is one of these girls who may eat Big Mac every day without putting on any weight. Her extremely long legs and arms also contribute to the image of a super skinny ballerina. But hey, if she wasn't healthy she wouldn't have become a mother. She's beautiful.

I'm sure that had Svetlana been around in Pavolva's day, she would have been a legend also. People would travel thousands of miles to see her. The same applied to Caruso. Everyone knew of these people. Also, as mentioned ballet itself is not as popular as it was in Pavlova's time. I would not dare say who was better - Pavlova or Zakharova. Pavlova was lucky. She was born at the right time.

Ahhhh, Pavlova! I have an issue of 'Dance Magazine' from January 1976 (very yellowed) where she is the cover subject of a special issue devoted to her. "Anna Pavlova Aspects of a Legend". Fascinating pictures and read. That's why I've saved it all these years.

Why ballerinas are freakishly skinny: 1. Have you seen what the guys have to do carrying them around? The less weight the better. 2. They look fragile and graceful, what most roles are looking for. 3. It's not very pretty to see someone's arms and legs jiggling about as they bourree. 4. They have to lift their legs and hold them. Once again, the less weight the better. 5. Most ballets are based off of Victorian-era ideals of women. Also, Svetlana is amazing.

I hope she keeps dancing for years and years. In my opinion, ballerinas do their best work when they are 40+. This was the case with Plisetskaya, Ulanova - and Pavlova also. Svetlana is getting bettter with age certainly.
