I studied both Kathak and Flamenco. There are definitely similarities. It is said that the gypsies in Spain might have come from Rajasthan originally. Food for thought.

You're right. DNA findings and then there is similarities in languages as well which have proved this. Kathak got refined in temples of India and genres evolved as well. Roma people adopted many things during their migration( they migrated in 8 or 11th century during islamic invasions)from languages to dance but the origins are in India ( Rajasthan, western UP, Punjab and Sindh region of indian subcontinent) You can still easily find Banjara community/ Roma people especially in rural areas of Rajasthan and they have still kept full in touch with their beautiful dance. It is believed that Kathak was refined in the temples and more elements of God's (Krishna and Gopi and Durga maa) were associated with it and later Kathak went to Mughal darbars (courts of the kings) and it picked some persian taste with itself.
