I am just speechless listening to these impossible pieces. Every time, doesn't matter if it's Beethoven, Mussorgsky, Bach.... I am hooked. Such precision, such craftsmanship, such wealth in sound and nuance... Thank you very much for this video.

Superlative pianism by any standards. Richter completely identified with Prokofiev and in my humble opinion no other pianist even comes close in this music.

I have never seen a better repertoire set in 1 recital! Also, richter is a superb pianist so that makes it even better. The best hour video!

Astonishing! So much mental concentration and finger control to get everything so right is only possible if the player has close connections with the supernaturals or is one himself.

Such acerbic wit and infectious rhythm in the "Quarrel"! Richter's playing is electrifying.

agreed, this is an amazing set!

Richter plays music exactly as the composer wrote it, no matter how difficult that may be. Prokofiev knew he could be counted on to do that.

Still the GOAT since the death of Rach. Staggering breadth of repertoire and a Furtwangler-like dedication to the composer!

Yes, Ashkenazy as well. Check out his DECCA recordings of Prokofiev's 6th, 7th, and 8th sonatas (from the 1960s), Romeo and Juliet, and Cinderella, and all the Piano Concertos.

I think Beethoven would have liked Richter, and I'd love to know what he might have composed in his honour. Something not far off Prokofiev, perhaps.

@Jeffrey Jones It might seem odd but i must add that his chopin is one of the best there is (only lipatti is better in chopin). It is very natural and has no that ridicuolous artificial rubatos and changes that modern pianists have.

don' you think, 7th Sonata is about Russian revolution (especially, final)?
