Thanks for a good review, but why would you put some music instead of a real sub experience? I came here for a sub listening and not some mp3 music.

In my opinion, I think the test should have placed the subs in the same location because I have experienced vast difference in the bass response of a sub moved from the left of the screen to the right for example.

I got an SB 3000 instead of a pb2000. The cost on the SB was only 50$ more than the pb2000 (outlet). I only watch movies, it’s in a small bedroom. Do you think i made a good choice? Larger sealed vs smaller ported? i really like to feel/breathe my bass I do not have space for dual right now until about a year. I was told with room gain the sealed would sound like or better than a ported.

Good choice. If space is a consideration though, the sb 4000 is still a great choice as there are enough adjustments that you can make regarding tightness, equalization, gain etc to make it sound virtually identical (or even louder within the system to the ph 4000) till you reach the maximum acoustic output of the sub.

@@ThatHomeTheaterDude He means sonically, do you hear a tighter bass response from the sealed versus the ported box. From my experience ported boxes appear to give more bass than sealed enclosures, but the ported enclosures actually provide a tighter, deeper bass response than ported. It's just that many people associate bass with boominess, and it's part of it but a good sub should sound tight, controlled, and deliver bass with authority... I think the sealed subs do just that.

I will say, I think there’s a disadvantage to one of those subs. They are about six feet apart and a foot can make a difference, even inches. Also, your wife is a lot closer to the PB than the SB. I think to be fair each sub should be in the same spot and run room calibration before testing. You may be getting more bass at the MLP from the PB as it seems closer to a corner.. maybe I’m wrong...just my thoughts.
@ThatHomeTheaterDude
@ThatHomeTheaterDude 7 жыл бұрын
audessy only lets you run 8 positions each 2 feet apart from the first. So it factors in a "cloud" round your MLP. Other positions probably sound good too, but audessy doesnt factor those in. They were measured equidistant from the enter sub and the only difference was about a few inches closer to the MLP since the pb was sooo huge. They are both the same distance to the corners since the tv is centered in the room and the subs are the same distance apart. Is it perfect no, but It was a quick comparrison between the two.
@robj422
@robj422 7 жыл бұрын
Falcon, you are right. There is such a thing as boundary gain. The PB being closer to the wife would account for her feeling the PB more but even with those statements being true, there's a reason the PB carries $400 premium. It's simply More Sub. Physics says you need a big box to get really low. Look at the size difference.
@FalconsATL
@FalconsATL 7 жыл бұрын
Rob J Oh yea, no doubt. I’d like to try out dual SB-4000 or even dual SB-16. Those SB’s get low enough and look better to me aesthetically. Yes, ported will get lower and have a little more output but if you’re getting below 15hz does it matter? lol. It all depends on what you want, what you like, room size, space, and money!!!

The ported filled the space better and more fully than did the sealed. You feel more Pressure from a sealed. You hear more from a ported. Dealers choice what they prefer, I like my home theater to mimic the theater. Thats why i dig ported over sealed. Plus in my space (since it it open to 1000+Sq/ft) Ported works best. In rooms that are enclosed by 4 walls sealed may be the solution. These arent hard and fast rules either. You can go with what you prefer

What would you recommend - dual PB 4000 or 1 PB-16 ultra?
@ThatHomeTheaterDude
@ThatHomeTheaterDude 7 жыл бұрын
alegend2k I’m going to say it depends. Dual 13 ultras is really all most people need and they are really hard to pass up at their price. But if you want the new stuff then I would say go dual pb-4000s. I haven’t heard too many great things said about the 16 ultras. But if you really feel like you need them and price and space isn’t a factor then try 1 of the 16 ultras out in your house for 45 days and if it’s a bad fit then send it back to them and get the pb-4000. I’m super impressed with mine and I think other people will be impressed with it too. Cheers.

I've heard the 16 ultra at a demo and it didnt sound much different than the -4000. With the 16 ultra you get into a realm of diminishing returns since you are only adding 300w for an extra $600. But you get a bigger chunk of that subsonic low end. The 16 ultra has the capability to be tuned to 13,14 or 15hz, which is why its a tough choice between that and the pb-4000. If price inst a concern then go with the single 16 ultra
@Ferrari_1996
@Ferrari_1996 7 жыл бұрын
alegend2k I'd go with dual PB4000. I don't think there's a drastic difference between PB4000 and PB16, and I'm sure you know the benefits of dual subs. The drawback is price, dual PB4000 will cost more than a single PB16 but if you're willing to spend the money and have the space for 2 subs then IMO it's the better option.

@Bahamies
@Bahamies 6 жыл бұрын
Like the comparison but I'm left to think that it might not have been done as correctly as possible. If you are doing a serious A/B comparison the position of the subs needs to be pretty much identical. That difference in position (like 1,5 meters?) can favor one or the other sub significantly. I know, it's hard to do proper comparisons with big boxes, but unless you do it right you might end up with the wrong conclusions. Also the 2nd listening position and wifes opinion has the same problem. Since the position is not equidistant to both subs, the position is going to favor either of the subs. In this case it's no surprise that she liked the relatively nearfield response of PB-4000 since the room does not affect the sound nearly as much as the SB-4000. But I'm pretty much nitpicking here, you can get impression on both subs while not doing everything by the book.

That Home Theater Dude Well I do not have the need to compare subs at the moment, but when I've done it I did it as I said. It helped me a lot when I tried to find out the differences related to subs when the difference in positioning couldn't interfere with the sound. But as I said, you can get the impressions on subs while not doing it by the book. I also know you've sent the SB-4000 back. I think you ended up with better setup with the PB's. I like your channel, keep up the good work.

@frankvee

Not exactly. The SB is in a smaller enclosure and it's totally and perfectly sealed. Because of this the driver will have better transient response and deliver tighter bass. Depending on the system you run them with, the SB may be a better choice. For instance, if you pair dual SB4000s with a set of Klipsch Cornwalls, you will likely get better synergy than with the PB4000s, simply because all the Cornwalls need to sound amazing is some tight and precise bass down low, which is exactly what the SB4000s deliver.

It's pretty good I just got it today and listen to some music and tv. I hoping this weekend I'll have more time to check it out with some movie time. I upgrading my old Martin Logan MLT system, the SVS defiantly has more low end. Not to mention it looks beautiful as well.

Tech. its IMPOSSIBLE to really for us to hear what you are hearing UNLESS we have the exact same systems you to listen through.Everyone is listening through PC speakers and which is why I never do Sound demos no matter what you record on its the same result It only as good as our sound system on PC is my 2 cents brotha

Some people watch my videos through their youtube app on their tv or cast it to their tv from their phone. If their avr is on then its a tad more realistic. But I didn't plan on it being a perfect representaion. I just wanted to let you guys know which one was better for us and our house. I'll get a better mic to give a better sound but that wont fix the way people watch the videos. I'm just trying to give you guys guality content. I am just starting out, so prodution values are always improving. Thanks for the critique

That Home Theater Dude totaly understand that. But as long asyou are happy with your setup screw me and tge general public LOL. If you retest that again then my suggestion is Port of Subs are always 4 to 6 DB higher right off the bat so it's not apples for apples the sealed Subs always have to be driven harder or turned out to be able to equal the output of a ported sub
@ThatHomeTheaterDude
@ThatHomeTheaterDude 7 жыл бұрын
I know its not apples to apples. I wanted to film which one I wanted to keep. Given both are optimized in settings and positions and everything was taken into concideratrion some people would still perfer one over the other. It wasnt a fair test, but it was a fun idea

For this test to be legit, the Subs have to be in the exact same position.. Room response dynamics from one location to the other differ drastically One sub could be optimally placed for this test and the other not depending on the in room response... but i understand moving such heavy equipment around is a problem.

I've noticed that you're using the standard mode for the PB4000 (no ports plugged). Just wondering why don't use the extended mode (1 port plugged)? That mode has the best low frequency extension.
@ThatHomeTheaterDude
@ThatHomeTheaterDude 7 жыл бұрын
I will. I just wanted to do an out of the box test to compare the two. I will plug up a port soon when I get the room back together.. Thanks good buddy!
@totalbliss1
@totalbliss1 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I always wonder what the point was to use standard when it doesn't offer anything? Extended goes down to 13hz and the sealed mode is good for music even though it goes down to 18hz, which is not bad.

FYI: on the PB, you can always seal all 3 ports and now you have a SB. So the PB is 2 birds for one stone, best of both worlds

So of the 2 what one would be most balanced for movies and music . how big it is doesn't matter

The sealed it great on its own, but I felt like I had to turn it up a bunch for music. The PB-4000 is best all around. It has higher SPL throughout the entire spectrum so it will be louder and more athoritative than the sealed version. I do 50 50 movies and music so the ported is best I think. Im going to do a video about plugging up all the ports on the pb to see how it sounds for music. Where you going to buy soon?

I love pantera. They recorded their albums right next to my house. I mean i didnt live here then but yeah. Best groove metal band ever. Just grab a Pb-2000. If you use my links to buy direct you can trade up to a higher model within a year when you have more cash. The 2000 is very capable and I really like it. Chest slamming, couch shaking bass

Your listening volume is preeeetty much... ;D I have Klipsch RP8000F's as mains and one Klipsch R115SW as sub (Denon AVR-1400H as amp) and if i'd listen to that volume it would be an ear blowing experience... You must have really tough ears ;D Not to even mention your dogs..

Reference or nothing for movies. If you have your setup calibrated properly to 75 db of white noise from each speaker to your listening position then it shouldnt be ear fatiguing
