Also did you hone the cylinders yourself or did you have a shop do that?

@@ericanding thank you! I'm glad you like the videos! I actually didn't hone the cylinders at all because they were clean. No scratches or anything that needed fixing up. Definitely would have done it if there was a need though. Not a difficult process and had good success with my boat engine. Just didn't really need to I guess since a bearing was all that was wrong with it really.

​@@605BOLT Oh okay thanks for the info on your build! This is the second time I've had to rebuild the motor since I've had the car. I had a local shop do the rebuild the first time around. Same deal. When I pulled the head off recently, I found out the shop had used the standard zetec pistons. It was sort of a flop with that local shop years ago. The engine lasted about 6 years. Which was fine by me. The first time that shop started the engine after the rebuild, the pistons actually hit the head and bent valves. I think that's because they used the SVT rods with the oversized zetec pistons. The shop had to take everything apart and redo everything. This time I'm going through everything myself for a fun project. I bought a rebuilt SVT head and a second motor. The second motor I bought had head gasket issues but it did come with a powerworks supercharger.

@@605BOLT I was actually thinking about making some videos of my build. I'm still waiting on some of the parts for my SVT. I finally got the head studs the other day and the main studs are in the mail. Thanks for showing how you cut out the reliefs on the windage tray. I have a little scope so I'm planning on using that to check clearances just like you did. I heard that the ARP rod bolts don't work with the SVT rods. Apparently the SVT uses a larger diameter rod bolt from the factory. I was also looking into the ARP flywheel bolts and those don't work either. I'm interested to see how the rod bolts hold up. ARP is really the way to go when getting new hardware. Overall, these videos you've made have been really great! So thanks again for sharing your build! I'm looking forward to the next videos!

@@605BOLT yes ,like I said im from cape town south Africa 🇿🇦 and early December I drive my car a bearing knock,the knock was that bad that only a piece the size of half my thumb was left,but I think most of the bearing burnt onto the rod and cap and maybe crank as well,cause I didn't find that much filings in the oil. But I appreciate u replying dude..

@@kylejulies1692 oh right on. It was same with me. I didn't find too many shavings except for inside the filter and also packed into the oil pump pickup screen. So maybe give those a look. At first the pickup screen looked clean but in reality the metal was packed way in there deep and needed to be flushed all out.

@@605BOLT yeh I cleaned the pickup,still didn't find that much filings,but didn't check inside of the oil filter yet. Is it possible for the wrong oil could be the reason for running a bearing and I've driven with the oil for about 7 months,cause I didn't have oil pressure and there was ample oil in it.

@@kylejulies1692 I wouldn't think that would be a problem if you out a 10w30 in for a 5w30 or 5w20. Should be just fine I would think. How many miles did it have on it?

Service manual for 2004 svt days "lower crankcase to cylinder block" is 22 lb ft. I'm assuming that's what you are looking for? If not, let me know because I can look that up or anything else for you.

Good video thanks one question my son remived conrods after marking caps . Then he remived pistons from conrod without marking which side off conrod faces to the front pulley can you please assist me . I see you say fird mark at the back is it the side facing the flywheel

Ok so I reviewed the footage closely. I never removed my pistons from my rods so I never really paid attention to this. No need to in my case. But if you use my setup as a reference, you can see at 7:20 when I pick up the assembly how the M for Mahle is facing up. When I twist the assembly around, you can see the valve reliefs which should be an assembly reference for you. The valve reliefs face the non PCV side of the motor or the rear of the car as it sits in an SVT Focus. From there, you can figure that the Mahle M faces to the rear main seal and the Ford logo faces forward toward the harmonic balancer. Hope this helps you out and thanks for watching!

No I don't believe so. Only applications that this engine game in are the SVT focus in the US and ST170 in Europe. But a lot of the techniques used in this entire video series would apply. Just slightly different due the engine.

How many miles were on those svt pistons? I've got a 03' focus and would like to re-use the pistons if I can when I go to rebuild it. She's just got lots of miles...

To my knowledge those pistons had 140K on them. I believe they were original.

I thought you had a bad rod with a spun bearing? Did you re-use that rod? Did you recondition it or ?

Rods checked out to size and the bearing was beat up on the crank side more than anything. 👍

How much did the whole engine rebuild cost you?

To redo the head was like 800 and then the rest was putting parts together between two engines. the other engine cost me 300. So figure something like 1500 or so all in for the rebuild.

I didn't see any way around it, no. Its easy to cut it in the way shown with the cutoff wheel. The other methods I tried prior really sucked haha.

I ordered them in individual piston sets from tasca parts. They don't sell a set for an entire engine. So I bought four individual sets for each piston.

couldn't you have just ground the extra threads on the main studs instead of the windage tray?

Perhaps. Didn't think of that but it really wasn't a bad deal once I got going. All studs (wheel studs, main studs, whatever) need to have protruding threads for maximum load. Not that this would ever see that kind of load but the fact remains. Could definitely do it that way though yes. That windage tray isn't really structural at all like some actual girdles are. I used the work girdle in the video but you're right in saying windage tray or upper oil pan or whatever. Thats a more appropriate name for it for sure.
