I got this installed but thinking of replacing it, for the most part the SW-motech bag works good and stays snug. But I probably mounted the ring incorrectly because the tank bag never just clips, I always have to fight with it to get it to clip. I had a support claim into SW-motech and they said I might have to touch up the ring contours to remove any overhangs that are hanging up an easy clip. I have had situations where the tank bag has let go while riding and I suspect this is due to my failure to get the latch and the ring properly aligned. A buddy got one of those new Lone rider tank bags a few months ago and I think I might give one of those bags a try, seems a lot quicker when filling then the SW one is. The other challenge I faced was the tank cap some times refuses to come up or latch, BMW says I need to adjust the tension of the tank cap collar because it is pinching the cap from aligning with the sensor pins. Just my experience with this kind of latch, really shows how useless I can be at times with mechanical things.

@@Dutchman0 Basically, the instructions from SW Motech don’t take into consideration that there are stand offs where the screws are threaded into the top aluminum ring from the bottom of the plastic part that mounts to the tank base. The adapter for Ducati is flat and the recommended torque value is way too much to be unsupported. I realized after the damage was done and then found out the plastic piece isn’t available as a separate replacement part, and the entire assembly is rather expensive. The assembly is made by Zadi, and they also manufacture the assembly for Aprilia that is structurally more rigid. I bought some plastic bushings 11/32 O.D. X # 12 I.D. X .250 long and an additional .040 thick washer (same I.D./O.D.) as well to get close to the height of the old part. I have extras and the information available if need be. For the Panigale, just drop in the small washer and the thicker bushing on top and reassemble, though I’d recommend cutting the torque value in half at least. I used the recommended blue Loctite but believe that they become “lubricated” fasteners, though I don’t remember where the reference chart is, in my work toolbox maybe? For the Aprilia, I had to turn down the O.D. of the bushings to .295 x .050 because that plastic bottom piece has a step but is recessed and accommodates the nuts perfectly. Then just place the thin washers on top and reassemble, still using minimal torque. I believe the instructions called for 5 Nm, that’s a lot for unsupported plastic that isn’t that sturdy to begin with. Hopefully someone can learn from my mistake but it actually is stronger as a “modified hybrid”. The bonus is I have an extra lock core, albeit with Aprilia keys. 🦉

How's the 1299 holding up? How many miles & any issues? I just bought one and I love it.

It's holding up really well, and I still haven't had any issues with it. I probably only put 1k miles on it each year now that the GS is my daily driver. I love that you love it! Ride safe!
