Tom Burton. Those are stamina dogs and they are a special breed called Seluki and were bred historically for long distance hunting. Grey hounds were mixed with this breed in their bloodline. You learn something new everyday.

The only good thing out of the Middle East.... salukis, sloughis, azwaks, they are running machines - their endurance is legendary ... I have chased a Saluki .... we called it a 3 County Run. My favorite breed.

I'm thinking about getting one once I've built a house over at my dad's lodge, it's a massive property that also backs onto the kahurangi national park here in New Zealand and I run my dog using a Honda pioneer as well as taking her for walks so I'm guessing that's sort of what I would need to do with one of those dogs too. Need to do some decent research before I get one, I've got a whippet x from a line of pig hunting dogs but she's starting to get old 😭. Would love to have a saluki for my next dog though

Alex Corke - Since you live in wide open spaces it would be ideal for a Saluki. I would get two. Preferably males and not from the same litter. When we hunted jack rabbits with salukis and greyhounds on the Colorado plains they would run so far they were a dot on the horizon ... but they would circle back around. The lead dog will try and turn the rabbit into the pack. The jack rabbits were quick and would run uphill to tire the dogs out. Only occasionally the dogs would get a kill. The jack rabbits had the home advantage. Best of luck. They are an elegant independent breed yet very loving in a quiet way.
