Lake Wright Patman has some of the best gar fishing including at the spillway at night when they feed on the little fish coming up for bugs. I've had a lot of luck both at night and during the day tbh, I think it's all a matter of timing

Growing up in Texas I saw some huge Gar, and caught a couple that were maybe 18" long but I never ate one. I was told the to prepare was the same as fresh water carp, You tack the to a 1/4" piece of plywood and leave them out in the hot Texas sun 2 or 3 days then you throw the fish away and eat the plywood.

This particular method works for big catfish as well. A little tip though. Using sticky reflective tape on the jug lines makes finding them at night stupid easy as long as you have a good light.

Sell it for the meat and hide. 30 days out the year is the time their allowed to hunt gators. It keeps the population of gators down. Born and raised in Louisiana I can tell u it can get out of hand bad. If they have to many of em then ur families and animals r in danger. It’s all just a circle of life u know.

@@vanessaadendorff469 not offended at all. It’s understandable. It taste kinda like chicken. Not completely like chicken but somewhat. It’s pretty good. I’m from here born and raised so I was raised on stuff like that and frog legs and mud bugs (crawfish) fish, deer, things like that. We have bayous and swamps everywhere here. U can walk in ur back yard and see gators. That’s why they have to keep em under control. Dogs, cattle and other animals have been eaten. Our kids can be in danger. Yea it’s our way of life. And I’m not gonna say everyone but almost everyone is like Troy and his family. Sweet humble willing to help one another. That’s just how we were raised. Much luv from Louisiana and god bless

Why sensationalize? The only report of a gar hurting a person was a clown that found a huge gar in a hole that was drying up. While trying to get the gar to water it thrashed about and hurt the fisherman.... no true gar attacking a person reports to date. These are not viscous fish... why sensationalize? To sell t.v. time? Shame shame shame....
