Then it decided I was chow and in a second it clammed on to my left thigh and started pulling me down. After it latched on to me I think it was more like 3 ft. The whole time it was flashing red and feel it chewing threw my wet suit. I was at 90 ft so I inflated my bc and that was the only reason he couldn't get me down and gave up and left. I am really grateful their wasn't two or more I would not have made it. The locals warned about diving deep at night in open waters. Hopefully you live and learn.

OMG! The river monster guy has graduated to the SEA! But those squid aren't really deadly! They could bite you, but that's about it! And you can bite them, and I hear they are delicious!

Little late here, but BS, Humboldt Squid are f*cking dangerous- you fall overboard into a ravenous swarm of these things, they’ll drag you down and shred you with their beaks and tentacles- think of them as the squid version of Piranha..

Fishing has never been this dramatic, even the camera filter make it appear dark and sinister

They should have the blue rails on the front of the boat so you can have something to hold on to that looked terrifying

I remember the story of a navy diver getting caught off guard by Humboldt squid. He watched the one in front but the real threat was the rest of the pack that swarmed from behind and ruined his breathing mask, too far down to swim for safety. I always wondered how a military member trained in awareness let it slip that hard

Love this show , however I feel like you need to get out into the sea and start catching more sea species because to be honest your running out of dangerous river fish :)

I’m pretty sure the fisherman knew he was going to throw them back and they were compensated quite a bit just to bring him along. If they literally paid the cost for every squid he threw back plus extra for their inconvenience having to babysit him and the camera crew why would they care.

I’ve caught Humboldt Squid off of Southern California in the winter at night. They will attack each other when hooked. You have to be careful when you bring them over the rail. They have hooks on their tentacles in addition to their beak. They are very good to eat.

I caught a lot of them out of Dana Point a few years ago when they were all over. Plenty of 40#ers! I’ve seen them on the surface as far as the eye can see at 9am. In fact I think I’ve caught as many during the day as I have at night. They’re definitely cannibalistic… you hook one and his buddies will turn on him… I’ve gotten just a head and the tentacles!
