This issue with Swamp Thing descending upon Gotham and leaving Batman and his prep time a bloody battered mess might be my favorite issue of the whole run. It had thought provoking ideas, awesome action, and that Swamp Thing Kaiju was just too cool. I also love how Batman was made to be the voice of reason and him bringing up Superman being non human as well to poke a hole in their hatred of Swamp Thing was pretty awesome and showed the true character of Batman. Your Swamp Thing vids have got to be some of if not your best work. Can't wait to see what's next my man!

You should cover Scott Synder and then, go on to Charlie Soule’s run. Those stories reintroduced and brought huge relevance to Swampy during the new 52. It was a back to “ roots” approach for the character, after him being gone for years following his return in Brightest day.

Jeff Lemire’s Animal Man, Snyder and Soule’s Swamp Thing, Gail Simone’s Batgirl, Morrison’s Action Comics and Batman Inc., and many more. . To be so dismissive of so many books just trying their best at a time of editorial confusioon seems extremely pessimistic at best, and downright facetious at worst.

Outside of Swamp Thing, much of Moore's work is embracing his structuralist and formalist inclinations in areas that -- in comics at least -- only he worked in until very recently. It's great and all, but also very much its own thing. It's Moore on Moore's terms. Swamp Thing was Moore, so to speak, playing by the rules -- brilliantly though. A monthly title with an established character; respecting continuity; working with crossovers; no grand architecture, et cetera. He and his collaborators were achieving greatness as month-to-month jobbers. This is an incredibly high level of invention and execution on a monthly schedule. So many reboots/reinventions of characters throw out almost everything with little to no respect. Moore rebooted this character without throwing away the character's history, but rather brilliantly recontextualizing it.Did the field learn from the formal innovations of Watchmen? No. Along with Miller, Truman, and Chaykin, they just picked up on the grit, the darkness, the violence. Has anyone pulled anything from From Hell or Promethea? Very little. But Swamp Thing? It birthed so much -- it birthed Vertigo. And yet, if you have a familiarity with all it has influenced -- and all that was influenced by those works and creators -- it will certainly lose much of its impact.

Moore's run on Swamp Thing may just be my favorite romance in fiction. I can't think of any other comic that had me so invested in the relationship of the characters involved than Swamp Thing and Abby. Part of me didn't even want to read any of the runs that came after because I just knew some writer down the line would find a way to break them up.

I heard that the modern comics did something really weird where Abby became an embodiment of Decay and people keep trying to do the Poison Ivy/Swamp Thing ship which to me is as annoying as Superman/Wonder Woman. It sounds like an idea that a ditzy friend of someone who reads comics would say should happen like, "But isn't (insert character name) is the strongest/most plant based, shouldn't he like be in love with (insert other character of similar powers)?" But they only do it for a shallow reason like that ignoring the fact that they have no compatibility like their established romantic partner has with them even though they're more normal than the hero/heroine.

In Swamp Thing, Miracleman, and Watchmen, Moore gives us three gods and three different decisions on how to deal with the problem of humanity and their destructive tendencies towards both themselves and the planet. Spoilers for all, but Miracleman takes the authoritarian approach, forcing utopia on us against our will. A lot of objectively good things come out of Miracleman's reshaping of society like no chance of us ever nuking ourselves, but as an audience, our sympathies are with Liz, the most human character in the story who understands this is wrong. Dr. Manhattan leaves humanity. Varying degrees of cold and detached the entire story, Jon sees the best and worst in humanity, is shown and believes its value when speaking to Laurie, but still ultimately decides to leave Earth and start again elsewhere, working on his own version of humanity versus living among the ones already here. Swamp Thing takes a third approach, one much closer to Moore's heart, I believe. Swamp Thing explicitly rejects the choice Miracleman makes, explaining all the reasons being an all-powerful parent is just going to make humanity worse, not better. But neither does he abandon humanity like Dr. Manhattan, having found love in Abby, friends in Chester and Liz, and a little home in a Louisiana swamp. He won't solve our problems for us, but when he's not spending time with the people he loves, he helps out where he can. That, I think, is Moore's message to both gods and men.

If watching all the swamp thing series of videos have shown me anythung is that alan moore's run is the instropection, exploration, extrapolation and analysis of human nature as a whole throught a character the has gone from mortal to abstract concept who is our pov to analyze and explore humanity as a whole from past sins returing to claim rettribution, the darkest aspects of human depravity and cruelty. Mankind destroys nature gods masterpiece but its human folly to blame god for inaction when its humanity that is incapable of seeing past their blind arrogance, ignorant cruelty and hatred for thing they are incapable of understanding, powerless to control, yet they act as if they were god. Its only in hubris that true hell unfolds, its only through compasion and humility in understanding and acceptance of what is, only then will we be able to find true contentment within our lives. All the aforementioned analysis ive made in swamp thing can be said in watchment, immortal hulk and many other works but then again this is all my humble opinion. All this said another amazing video i take my hat off to you matt draper true marvelous work.
