The way they have to jump, clap and wave and say Robert THANKS, THANK YOU just makes me laugh...i was almost on the floor crying!
I know I should compliment the dancers, but I just love the pianist. I can imagine he gets so into it and completely zones out from the actual dancers. The dancers are absolutely wonderful too, but that goes without saying

Charlotte atkinson imagine in the performance where he gets very carried away and plays the wrong parts of the parts that are supposed to be played in the actual moment😂😂

i had a piano teacher who happened to be a ballet pianist and i had my lessons right after on the days she was hired to rehearse by a company. So i felt the exaustion on her body every time. But she loved that. It's an art. Congrats, ballet pianists, working as much as hard as the dancers themselves.

But honestly, as a pianist, I understand how annoying it is to be asked to constantly stop playing and pick it up some place hahaha especially if you're really feeling it

He is a wonderful pianist, but remember ge is a rehearsal pianist, and is quite used to stopping. Yes he is feeling the music, but he is also making the dancers feel the music. Until you have played for a ballet class or ballet rehearsal you will not understand,

The principals should watch the 1982 video of Dowell and Makarova in the final horrifying last realisation, and the final embrace before they plunge to their deaths into the lake. Not to copy them, but to get a sense of the mimetic timing and the dramatic sweep that is needed for that moment, and how it can be achieved.

This is act IV, the last act, and the segment of dance shown is very near to the end of the ballet (act IV is when Siegfried and Odette reconcile and die, act 3 is when Odile tricks Siegfried at the ball, act II is when Siegfried and Odette meet and act I is basically Siegfried having his 21st birthday party).

I compared this to the Swan lake rehearsal of English National Ballet with Sir Derek Dean (it’s here on YT in the documentary „Agony and Ecstasy). It’s like day and night. Amazing dancers, yet Sir Derek is like „dreadful... absolutely dreadful... and poor me has to watch it... God almighty... I‘m not wasting my time with her...you‘re so unmusical...“ Rehearsing for hours on end with constant bullying of the principals. Sir Anthony is wise, funny, polite and brings it right to the point. Everyone seems to enjoy him- or herself, including Robert

That’s right. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, and if one is going to copy someone, why not copy from the best? As you say, in time and with more experience, these performers will find their own way with the dance-mime.
