As a ballerina, listening to tchaikovsky is an indescribable feeling

I’m a speed skater, but the figure skaters next to us put that up once, damn I wish I could skate like them instead of being a fast boi. Don’t get me wrong, I love speed skating, but there is something about their movements that we don’t have. We are efficient, they are magnificent. We’re a pure sport, they’re doing art with their bodies. Huge respect to them and to all the other artists using their bodies to show emotions.

I hated all this when my dad forced me to listen to it, after sometimes I learned to love it, because this was the only way to connect with him. Also reading, I enjoyed talking about many books and novels, I did not know how fortunate I was to have found a way to communicate with him.

Same with me and opera (and fish). When I was a kid, my dad would play opera records or Neapolitan ballads and sing along out of key, ofttimes embarrassingly from the balcony, exalted virtues and wonders of opera - but somehow always managed to escape going to theatre with mum (or some other member of family) and me, because "business dinner" or business trip - plus, he was (still is) a bully, and I've hated him since I can remember. So, that was the only reason I grew to despise opera, too. Once I moved away from him and his annoying (at best) and at worst, violent, behaviour, and since I already loved other classical music (from my ballet and piano lessons), opera became less and less hateful, and I started to enjoy it. The same with fish the old bully forced me to eat - I hated it on principle, not so much the taste. Once I didn't have to watch him devour all kinds of fish and other seafood and suffer him yelling at me if I didn't eat as much as he did, it became one of my favourite dishes. The only problem is that nowadays the Mediterranean and adjoining seas are all but empty of fish and other frutti di mare, and seafood available now, imported or grown on fish-farms isn't 10% as tasty or healthy as it was 40 or 20 years ago. 🤷🏻‍♀Moral of our stories - you can't make anyone love anything by force.

I saw it live just a few days ago and it was the firs time it had been performed professionally where i live in over a decade (i think) and it was incredible. We weren't near the stage as it was too expensive but i highly recommend going if you can. The costumes, the lighting, the set, the choreography, the music and the dancers (specifically Odette) were all amazing.

The tension in the flute is magnificent and then the build up into the overbearing release with the incoming string and brass sections make this a very ominous and emotionally charged intro for a piece. Incredible composition
