I've never seen a swan so interested/responsive/dependent, even - to and with a human being before. While I'm terribly sad for him that he lost his lifelong mate, it's gratifying and fascinating to see him as presently cared for, and as animated now, vital, and engaged. BriAnna is right. It's always a **gift when an intelligent, emotional creature chooses you, trusts you. Many years of friendship and good health to both.

The goose just recently started following wooper around right before the video was made. She has officially been inducted as a resident now and we have given her a name whistler. She never leaves whoopers side.

I have a summer stay and 4 summers ago a pair of wild swans chose to build their nest in the water in front of the house. Swans can be quite defensive and the male is huge. In the first few weeks of the first year they learned we were safe to be around and we could do whatever we wanted without getting attacked. Every year they have been comming back and every year they raise 6 young swans. And now they are so comfortable around us, that the male even enters the house when the doors are open.

Okay . . . the obvious unaddressed issue in this video is "What's with the Canada Goose who follows Whooper everywhere while he's following BriAnna???!" Is it a male goose or a female? If it's a female, is this a case of unrequited love as in Whooper loves BriAnna but Canada Goose is in love with Whooper. If it's a male, is he Whooper's bodyguard?
