Swanage Railway: Standing Together

In the second episode of our two part series, Josh finds out what the railway means to the community by talking to one of our local businesses along with South Dorset MP; Richard Drax, Swanage Town Cllr and Chair of the Tourism Committee; Caroline Finch and Swanage Town Mayor and Cllr; Mike Bonfield.
It's taken over 40 years to lovingly but painstakingly reconnect Swanage to the mainline railway network at Wareham but to give the railway a future, we need your help to fight for its existence! Together we can save the railway from crisis and ensure it keeps its place with the community in the Isle of Purbeck. From distant Melbourne in Australia, may I suggest that the GBP344000+ donated by 31 December 2020 speaks volumes for a high amount of community support. Worth donating to, as UK has the best heritage railway scene in the world. As with the first video, this second in the series is of excellent quality. Good interviewing style, not interrupting the speakers. Many salient points made.

Interesting how attitudes change, in 1979/80 when I wrote a thesis on disused railways in the landscape the local authorities preference was to turn the trackbed into a Corfe Castle bypass rather than supporting the crazy idea of some steam train anoraks !

Lovely stuff and well made video too. Really insightful. Railways aren't just the back bone of a town, the're the back bone of the entire world. It's only right we try and save them. :-) I haven't visited here yet, but i'm more than hopeful that i'll get to visit next year. So for now, i'll say, See You Soon! :-)
