....Rrriiiight. Please refrain from using your childhood flashbacks as tepid insults, 'kay? 'kay. The song you're citing has nothing to do with rape. Surely you're being sarcastic? I mean, I hope you are.

I've always been intrigued as to why M.Gira specifically uses a Gibson BB King Lucille almost exclusively. I suppose the real answer is probably along the lines of simply "because hejust likes it, that's why", but I can't be the only one whose struck by what a unique choice of guitar it is considering the music he makes.
@y4bly
@y4bly 2 жыл бұрын
i think his guitar parts are mostly mid-range frequencies, at least in this iteration of the band it gives the music some meat next to the much brighter telecaster and lap steel. semi-hollow body works good for that

@@y4bly That's possibly the reason. I feel like he saw it as a standard 335 without the hassle of feedback and the 5th knob was a bonus for options.

I had luck to exchange few words with the pedal steel player (sorry,don't know his name),a skinny guy,very polite and friendly. It was in Rijeka/Croatia after (or before?) the gig. Which was brutal and punishing, a real experience

@@zeno6169 It was...an Experience (ordeal?), a skin-raking, tooth-loosening, ground-shaking, cyclical marathon of quiet intensity-cum-ear-splitting soundscape I have neither heard, nor felt, in many, many years. I knew it was going to be an Event when pedal-steel player took stage, walked over, & personally handed me not 1, but 2 sets of ear plugs from his suitcoat pocket. For duration, from head to toe, hairs long & short across my entire body vibrated. A team of talented musicians giving 100% thruout, w/every ounce of attention laser-focused on Gira, simultaneously rocked their soles off/souls out whilst fearing having them ripped asunder if caught slacking, or failing to crescendo to nth degree whenever Michael elevated an eyebrow, lifted a lid, or frantically raised/gyrated his arms in mesmerizing attempt to literally PULL the sounds he demanded from them. Gyrating audience transfixed, entranced, or perhaps struck dumb. Empty beer cans/plastic cups danced across floor of their own accord, prompted by palpable vibration. Michael agreed to post-gig signing of autobio I bought, but I had to split w/band still onstage playing last song. They started late & ran long. Still kickin' myself in arse, but If not left when did, I'd have missed last train + bus & been stranded overnite on winter street in cold City rain. Regardless, glad I checked email 45 mins prior to showtime, cuz I won those tix! Missed most of 1st band. All I recall is gal vocals & chorus of, "Eff u, I quit!" But caught entire Swans set.

The important thing is learning how to make whatever you play sound good, and that’s what Gira does and has been doing since 1979.
@HeroinChrist
@HeroinChrist Ай бұрын
You probably could not. It’s one thing to be able to play a chord, it’s another chug away at a chord for 10+ minutes IN TIME while Gira gutturally screams, possibly at YOU if you mess up a bit.
