It's also my favorite album of all time. I feel like no matter how many times I hear it, I will never be able to comprehend its genius. There is so much to analyze and appreciate. Every time a new sound enters a song it always feels completely necessary and enhances the experience so much.

I don’t know if you’ve had it requested yet but I HIGHLY recommend reacting to Swans - Soundtracks For The Blind seeing how much you enjoyed this album. It’s definitely gonna be a daunting task given it’s length and disturbing abstractness, but it’s an album that legitimately sounds like nothing I’ve ever heard. It elicits the same primal fear out of me as when I watch Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. (Also there’s literally no reactions to the album so that would be amazing)

What I love the most about TBK or pretty much any other Swans record is that they restore your sense of wonder about music. It doesn't matter if you're hearing them for the first time or the thousandth time, you just know you've never heard anything remotely like it.

This album is incredible. And imo, The Glowing Man (the album after this one) is ever better. TGM is more meditative, and like... Fuck, it feels like what God is or something, I've never experienced that feeling through music as much as I have through that album. This band is amazing
@theladyfingers___2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed them! Discovered them in the mid '90s and every time they released a new album it was a highlight of the year. Incredible band. Other album highlights are Children of God, White Light from the Mouth of Infinity and Soundtracks for the Blind, but every album has something to recommend it.

yo snowy, been following your reactions a lot lately. feels good to see someone discovering and experiencing new music. to be kind is definitely a lot to take in at once, props to ya. if you do more swans, definitely give the seer or soundtracks for the blind a try. it’s possible you could even like those more, i do at least. also really really excited for you to check out spirit they’re gone, spirit they’ve vanished from anco since you’ve been delving into them a lot. it can be a demanding first listen but for me it’s anco’s “perfect” album, and one of my favorite albums period. a big beautiful tearjerker. pretty sure someone’s already recommended person pitch, which is also mind blowing. keep up the quality vids dude!! excited for what’s next :)

Definitely worth listening with headphones, and LOUD. As loud as you can without risking tinnitus, I'd say. The production on the last 4 or so studio albums is absolutely phenomenal, but The Glowing Man in particular stands out. The production on that is out of this world, much like the music. The guitar and bass tones are outrageously good, I'd say perfect.

Great that you reactet to this album, which is not reacted to very often. When you said "this is right down my alley" you said the exact same thing I thought when I first listened to this band. They're so rewarding, and have music for every situation. I would recommend a more "lightweight" album of theirs. I mean it's really dark, but compared to this, it sounds like country-pop. In the 90s and 80s, the band had a folk-rock gothic phase going on, and the best album that came out of this (at least for me) is "White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity". This band has so many perfect 10/10 records, it's just not true. That album is one of them. If you want to hear the singer actually sing (and on this album you can also hear that he is a great lyricist. The words and meanings of most of the songs are so sad & deep it's really great), try this album out. And it is only a bit over an hour long, so it's comparably easy to listen through... And also you reminded me that I have to paint my nails black again - I think it's really cool that you do that btw.
@snowy63012 жыл бұрын
That sounds awesome I’d love to check it out! Swans is an enigma lol. Also thank you sm for the nail compliment :)

I just listened to this for the first time a couple days ago, and yeah this reaction is pretty accurate.😂 Also, if you thought this album was weird, you should listen to Girl With Basket of Fruit by Xiu Xiu. It's only 36 minutes, but it's absolute mind f*ckery. Listening to that thing with headphones in a dark room is the most nightmarish and bizarre music listening experience I've had. The album is completely cursed and shouldn't exist 10/10.

Been watching your videos recently and I really love your reactions and analyses of albums. I want to recommend two albums, from the same band and that helped kick off post-rock as a valid genre: “Spirit of Eden” and “Laughing Stock” by Talk Talk. Both albums rely on very minimalistic compositions and lyricism but offer very different experiences. Eden is more loose and meditative while Stock is staggeringly morbid, but both contain a certain tranquil beauty to them that’s almost holy. Please check them out when you can, they’re two of the few albums I can say are genuinely perfect in every way.
