Swansea Boys Club 1922

Opening in 1922, Swansea Boys Club was once one of the most successful clubs on the Swansea and West Wales football scene.
The club actually started in the Strand Mission and was a huge success. At one time it had over 500 members, it now stands abandoned and eerie, overlooking the city.

Nice! I used to go to this youth club. As did my mother when she was young. Believe was a 'boys' only place at one time...perhaps purpose built gym type place for men only.. But definitely 70s onwards all were welcome. Used to have a tuck shop, craft room, footbal/wooden gymnasium room, tennis. 20p to get in. Those were the days. I'm 36 now. Went about age 11 to 13. Closed down then. Also used as the police station in the film Twin Town. Havent watched vid yet. Cant wait for the nostalgic feeling. 🙃👌 ***Edited*** Nostalgic feeling 10000% ...... to the extent of hearing Rosita ( elderley, tough as boots, stern looking, sterner speaking craft room boss lady) in my head...." card is not free anymore" "5p per sheet" 5p for a huge A3 sheet of card would be amazing now. Back then it felt like daylight robbery. No tick on the card neither. Lol ...she tried it but then kids werent paying up 😂😂😂 Ah Rosita! We gave her hell and she gave us her heart and soul. R.I.P Rosita. Xx * The room with an orange fish graffiti on wall like a goldfish was the Tennis/Badminton room... full netting the works. * the room that you were like how do I get in here...that was a storage room for footballs, nets, tennis equipment etc. Think a step ladder was used, or like a pulley ladder thing. * The room with a tiger (kind of) .... (edited..) not a tiger.....bart Simpson or something graffiti lol 😂 ..... that the craft room *opposite craft room - pink room with shelving, roof now blitzed and disappeared was the tuck shop... toast, crisps, penny sweets. * downstairs room with wooden bars on walls, used to be all wooden bars, was like an old fashioned gymnasium type thing. And had those thick ship style climbing ropes. * The room with rocking horses i for the life of me cant remember. Perhaps a child development room as I know they run classes there sometimes such as hairdressing. Wow!!! That really did take me back. * oh and downstairs...the bricked up wall.... that was actually the entrance. The que would be an hour long. Through that door and up the stairs. 25 years ago.... feels like just a few months ago. Going back to enjoy the last 2 and half mins. Thank you!! 😊

Thanks for your history, I can only imagine it was a busy and lively place, such a shame that many buildings like this are just being left to rot away.

@@WaynesWorldofexploration Just done a quick edit also. And no no....all thanks to you! People say the fire was an 'insurance job' developers wanted it for flats or something. But it is said council said no and so current holders done insurance job. ALLEGEDLY!!! It's an iconic building. Bit of an eyesore but iconic all same. Shame it is wasted one way or other. Anyway...like I said ...all thanks to you.👍👍👍👌👌👌
