Swanson’s theory of caring

This video is about one of the important theory of nursing fundamentals or nursing foundation, the Swanson’s theory of caring. Swanson’s theory has five concepts. Knowing, being with, doing for, enabling & maintaining belief. The concepts also have some subdimensions. Knowing consists of Avoiding assumptions, centering on the one cared for, Assessment thoroughly, Seeking cues & Engaging the self or both. Being with consists of Being there, Conveying ability, Sharing feelings & Not burdening. Doing for consists of Comforting, Anticipating, Performing skillfully, Protecting & Preserving dignity. Enabling consists of Informing/ explaining, Supporting/ allowing, Focusing, Generating alternatives & Validating/ giving feedback. Maintain belief consists Believing in/ holding in self-esteem, Maintaining a hope filled attitude & Offering realistic optimism.
