Fantastic! Love your channel, but what made me subscribe, is that while I watch many machinist channels, you are the first I've seen that consistently holds and orientates wrenches correctly (open end and adjustable). It's a pleasure watching someone with competence! Roger from Calgary.

Decent looking unit, once it’s undergone “Max”imization. This is a great series of videos. Thanks much. I think that it’s Stefan Gotteswinter who describes far East imports as being raw material kits in need of fit and finish and that is hard to argue with because , at the price point, you don’t mind putting some time and effort into making it work and look how you want it to.

Cool you have the clapper box, its missing on my Bridgeport E head, replaced with a large bushing by the prev owner. Tools mount in it rigidly, which works ok for keyways etc even though the tool drags on the way out. Sure like your setup better. Totally going to steal your idea for tools though.. I've been silver soldering HSS and carbide- fine for small stuff but nothing like your parting blade setup!

Are metric threads standard in Australia? A Bridgeport will have UNC or UNF threads as most American equipment does. Older British equipment might have BA or Whitworth. I have a lathe dog made in India and the screw on it is a mystery. Autos can have a mix. Pain in the neck. Is the slotting head metric?
@swanvalleymachineshop5 ай бұрын
The slotting head has metric threads . Your lathe dog may be BSW . But yes , Metric is standard here . Cheers 👍

What material is the stick that you deburred the cutter with? Where would you get another? 😊

Also Max .. your 2° sharpie witness trick only works if the stock HSS was square to begin with doesn't it.
@swanvalleymachineshop5 ай бұрын
Yes . That is why i ground the top square ( front clearance ) on the same axis as the centreline of the side clearance angles . I think i forgot to point that out when i ground it . 👍
@stevewilliams24985 ай бұрын
Max, Help me understand how you can braize HSS but can't get too hot when grinding a twist drill ?🤔
@swanvalleymachineshop5 ай бұрын
Heat does not effect HSS , unless you melt it . Turning blue when grinding is no problem . It can glow red & be all ok . 👍
