Well g'day Max, just catching up with this one buddy, this is going to be a great bit of kit, feel free to send us some heat, its baltic over in Blighty, and always wetter than an otters pocket, every bit of kit in my shop is oily for the damp it collects, righto time for a brew and a Swan Valley video. Happy days 🎉 Thanks for sharing and best wishes to you and yours

Max, another great video! I really appreciate you being as precise as needed and not getting carried away, and wasting time making every dimension to half a gnat's ass whether or it's needed or not. Those two set screws don't need to be perfectly 90° to each other. Love your channel!

4:56 I understand your sentiment. I’ve lived my entire life in Phoenix AZ, USA. Last year we had 70 days above 43c, it makes work unpleasant especially as I’ve gotten older.

I'm over in Cairns so it's not humid for about 3 days in the year. I played with this flood coolant that I saw the guys over at Hal Heavy Duty machining using - Pink lemonade is what they call it. Holemaker by ITM. I found it doesn't seperate so retains the corrosion protection and up here when I expect the next day to have a pan full of rusty chips, they were still shiny. Thought I'd risk it and just wipe down my lathe as opposed to wiping oil everywhere to stop flash rust which is normal up here and yea, still protected. Oh and it leaves a decent finish on 4140 so yea, not bad stuff.
@swanvalleymachineshop4 сағат бұрын
I have heard it is expensive stuff . My lathe would take about $1000 to fill up . 👍

Great tip on restraining things for heating and shrinking. I live on the coast of northern california and have to run a dehumidifier constantly and keep everything covered in WD40. Its so humid I get about 1-1/2 gallons of water out of the air in my 600 sq ft shop every day. Super annoying.

I use Sta-bil Rust Stopper here in the 🇬🇧 . I have had days when we had a sudden temperature change, and there has been water literally dripping off machines. I have used 2 tins in about 18 months. Anything that has been sprayed is fine, just a bit of a pain to clean off. Well recommended.

i have a snapon mig welder that had a set up like a windshield wiper motor for the drive of the wire speed , it worked ok at first but it never really worked right so i bought a brushless dc motor and controller off ebay and replaced the motor with it. The brushless motor will increase the power needed to stay at the speed set because it has feed back to the controller. it is rather small and powerful and controlled by a 5k potentiometer
@swanvalleymachineshop4 сағат бұрын

40°C, Ouch!, 25°C is my limit, and that's sitting down 😅. 1st arc shot is just how I see my welding, or attempts, 2nd was clearer, and noticed difference to now in spray mode, my Fabricator 160 max Volts is 23 I think, max 0.8mm, @5Kg, machine is better than my welding though 🤔. Great procedure, process and build Max, be interesting to weigh the final assembly? Thanks for sharing.

@@swanvalleymachineshop I know you have stopped using Filmora, so I'm not sure how you would do it in whatever your using now, but in Filmora which is what I've used for about 10 years, it's just a solid colour from the Stock Media tab, placed on the line above the piece of video with the welding in it, and you adjust the opacity of the black. Have a look in whatever program you are now using and see if it has something like that. If it is a very simplistic video editor it may not have it.
@jefftheaussie222516 сағат бұрын
It was the job deciding to earth at the other end onto the table that stopped your weld. We could see the arc.

I’ve always found it annoying that older machinery is never plated on its bare metal parts. More modern equipment is more likely to be plated at least in some rust worthy places. But chucks never are. I know how much it would add to the cost, which for some things isn’t much and for others, it is. I’d love to be given the option. When I bought my latest chuck, about three years ago, it would have been nice if for another $100, or so, I could have gotten the body plated. So far, no rust. I clean it with WD-40 after use and that seems good. We get a lot of humidity here in New York City.
@swanvalleymachineshop4 сағат бұрын
Yes , valid point about the plating . I might try that stuff Abom uses , SP350 . 👍

@swanvalleymachineshop had a welding BB melt into the side of the can and the can then spewed it's contents directly into the arc and exploded. It was about half the distance away from where I was welding as compared to your video.
