With my builds so spread out over the years and so many videos I was seeing that people get lost on my page trying to look up a specific swap of mine, I figured it might be good to have a video encompassing the 4 current builds as they sit today. It is a longer video but there is a lot to explain with 4 custom vehicles. Hopefully this is good information!

A Audi 3.0 V-6 TDI would probably have been a better choice on the Dakota, especially since it regularly came with a gas V-6. Much more Torque as well for the heavier weight. Mileage would probably be similar.
@TDISwaps
@TDISwaps 5 ай бұрын
Yeah I mostly did the Dakota as a hunting rig to where highway capabilities weren't really needed. I just wanted all the vehicles to have the same engine at that point. But I've given everyone some real world comparison getting it out on the highway and honestly it does better than I was expecting so it's a win-win for me but yes there are plenty of bigger engines that would do better.

If I had a do over with my 04 wrangler I would move the engine forward. It is definitely a job working in that tight space with so many important system to deal with. Pump, vacuum lines, temp sensor, water lines and fuel lines. I usually get from 24 to as high as 28.5 mpg although we have been trying to figure out the lack of power especially when cold. I 100% agree how a head wind saps the power. That Dakota looks like a factory build with the lack of clutter.

Such cool vehicles man. It’s neat to see the break down and compare what weight/size of vehicle does to that tiny little engine. What are your thoughts on the bew (or any pump deuce tdi engine in general) compared to the Alh? I know they cost quite a bit more to maintain because of the different fuel system etc. etc. but in your opinion is there any benefits to the bew over the Alh?
@TDISwaps
@TDISwaps 7 ай бұрын
Power potential is the biggest difference, and if you can get used parts for them the cost becomes about the same, ALH injection pumps are about the same price new as the BEW injectors. The both wear out cams eventually, but BEWs more often. So it's really a toss up, I always go back to whichever you get the best deal on running is the best TDI for you.
@ydocproductions5593
@ydocproductions5593 7 ай бұрын
@@TDISwaps I’ve heard you don’t really want to go above 180-200hp for an Alh. What would you say the bew can handle safely? Also have you seen a wild mpg difference between the two engine platforms?
@TDISwaps
@TDISwaps 7 ай бұрын
@ydocproductions5593 the BEW can possibly do a little better mpg in the car, but they are very similar. With proper tuning I have nearly 250 HP worth of fuel to my ALH in the Toyota, but it has to be limited below 2500 RPM, the BEW can handle upwards of 300-350 HP so that is the main advantage.

I planning to put a ALH in my 98' 4runner but my TDI doesn't come with any of the wiring. I thinking of doing a M-TDI since I don't have any wiring for the engine but not too sure what mechanical pump to run. I heard of people from forums of running a older vw idi diesel from like a 1.6, 4bt ve pump and other mechanical pump that people run. I know I not going to make much power and torque as one with factory vw bosch pump with the mechanical pump. I know I going to beef up the motor for some boost like around 30 pounds or more to make some power. Main goal is to get better fuel efficiency and more torque than the 3.4 V6 that in it and it'll be rolling on 33s and with R150F transmission.

@@TDISwaps it doesnt make sense to me that high elevation will produce lower fuel economy with a turbo engines, turbos self compensate for that drop in air pressure. Less power out put though does make sense.
@TDISwaps
@TDISwaps 7 ай бұрын
@A2J_Tim well you are tracking, less power means more boost to make the same power, but more boost usually means more fuel, my tuning combats that some leaning the mixture, but most engines fuel mileage here just plummets. Gas engines can't hold speed in overdrive because of the loss of power, so many are running in 1 or even 2 lower gears almost constantly in the hills, which kills their fuel mileage even worse. Without tuning for the high elevation even turboed vehicle are often running more fuel than necessary because they are in a state of load usually reserved for towing or acceleration. It's literally like having a trailer behind you constantly lol

Watching your videos has made me really want to do a 1.9 swap in a conquest. I love the 1.9 in the 04 jetta i picked up and after watching people build these into the 400-500+hp i think a 250-300hp build in a 3200lb rwd car would we super fun to daily drive. Hopefully i could still get 40+mpg with that kind of power
@TDISwaps
@TDISwaps 7 ай бұрын
The cool part is as long as you set the cruise control the TDI usually is not affected by power mods in lighter vehicles where it doesn't need the power. But just normal driving around it's pretty hard to not use more fuel when you have it right at your foot 😂
