9 AB was never a tourist attraction many years back when we were growing and ppl didn't visit that area except for trains passing by. So it was mostly wild life habitation surrounding the tracks with bee hives may have freely existed for many years. And now large numbers of human presence in their territory since late and that's a conflict between human and the wild life 😆. So ppl shouldn't upset bees bcs they are very territorial.🙄

Standing still is actually the best way to avoid being swarmed completely. The bees are attracted to rapid movement and consider it as a threat to the colony. If you're too close, plus you're doing something like rapid movements, then you're very likely to be engulfed in anger bees

If there are bee hives and the attacks are happening on a daily basis then the Sri Lankan authorities should either remove “shift” the hives to another place or don’t allow tourists to visit the place because of the hazards involved. So they have to sort this out.

This reminded me an incident happened to me a decade ago at the top of Laxapana falls. That day I was attacked not by bees but by a swarm of wasps. It was may be hundreds of them. The hospital staff took out around 300 stings on my body after the admission. I could barely remember how I was taken to the hospital that day and all I can remember it was on a Tuk tuk with my mate and that I threw up several times during our journey to the hospital which was about 30 minutes. Funny things was my body's immune system got activated intensely and I didn't experience any cold or flu like symptoms for more than a year. Hope you 2 will experience the same.

The best instant first aid for bee sting is that honey should be soon applied to all the places where the bee stings. In sundarbans jungles, West Bengal , India ( one of the densest jungles) , the tribal honey collectors use this technique as immediate treatment when they are in the remotest part several days away from any habitation to keep them alive from bee stings if it happens . Its so crazy to see this back on video. I just came back from Guinea in West Africa and also got attacked by an African honey bee swarm. I did everything i shouldn’t have done. I swatted them, jumped in the water and after that started squishing them in my hands. Until my friends saw me and came to help me to run away. It happend 3 days ago and am honestly still a bit perplexed and happy that I survived. I am now covered in about 60/70 stings with at least 20 on my head/neck. I wouldn’t be around to write this comment if i was allergic since we were on an island and it took 2 hours to get to the hospital on the main land. Whatever you do, RUN AWAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN!

I'm so sorry for the horrendous experience you faced. Glad you both are ok now. Though I'm a Sri lankan i haven't heard about these attacks at nine arch bridge before. On the other day I was watching a video by "fields of visions" at nine arch bridge and I was pissed to see that they were instructed by the tourist police to not to fly the drone. That was so scary! One of the more terrifying experiences I can think of when out holidaying. You guys are a good sport; first, I saw your subsequent video where you mentioned the bee attack. Seeing you in good spirits so soon after the attack, especially Leanne, as she was even more shaken, is fantastic. Good to know you are fine now. Hopefully, the rest of the trip will be pleasant. Very nice of the locals too. They were pretty helpful, especially for Leanne. The only grouse is that some warning or advisory should be there when approaching the bridge. So that people who are allergic to bees can keep them off, and even if they are not, they know what to do precisely in case of an attack.

I've heard that bees attack black clothing and white clothing helps to not attract bees. It's so good that you both were okay. I am scared of bees because i used to get stung almost everyday because of my mother's flowers when i was young. I worry about multiple bees stings to effect my health. So very cool that the locals keep dry grass handy to product smoke.

What is this exactly? Swarm migration? Saw something similar at work in Ireland. We all rushed to close the windows before the swarm arrived. Genuinely looked like a cloud approaching. Nobody got stung thankfully.

The point of not running is to not aggravate them in the first place. When she swatted the bee on her arm that’s what started the attack. Where he made a mistake though is when they are already starting an attack, definitely run and don’t stand still like he did. Because at that point, it doesn’t matter if you weren’t the one to swat them, they will attack everyone on sight

I went through this in Brazil. It started to get bad when I forgot my lunch at home. I was attacked by wasps on top of a remote mountain. I lost the glasses. I had to go back to get it because without them I wouldn't see anything. After getting rid of the wasps I had to go through a big trunk that was in the middle of the trail. I sat on the log and put my feet up to follow the path on the other side. There was a rattlesnake curled up ready to attack...I passed through that safely... Then I started to fear an anaphylactic shock because of the bites and I tried to send a message through zapp. That's when I realized that the cell phone was defective... What a day...

1:40 "running was not the right decision!" that is some crazy level of stubborn. if you stayed put, you would still be getting attacked by 100s of bees.. you were safe because you ran. you had to run because the bees were already angered at that point. something disturbed their nest, which was probably close by.

My double deep honey bee hive fell over from strong gusts of wind and rain tonight here in Texas. A cloud of bees roughly ten feet in diameter lingered in the air above the downed hive box. I immediately went over there in the pouring rain wearing just a pair of shorts - no shirt, no veil and gently lifted the separated boxes one at a time off the ground to get them back upright and on the stand. It was absolute chaos - I got lit up by the swarm pretty badly up and down the whole left side of my body from head to toe. Yes, it effin hurts! But I stayed there to gently pick up the second box and place it along with the lids back on and I got stung at least 60 times, five in the same spot, one inch away from my left eye socket. I used my shoulder to move them away from my face or else I'd have to drop the box and run. When I wiped them with my shoulder they tagged me up and down my left side all over my rear end and hips too. They're my pets and I'd do anything to bring them all back together again. My only other option was to leave them there, walk away from it and lose the entire swarm. I'm dry now, sitting on my couch I know i'll be miserable for the rest of the evening. I'm relieved knowing they're home safe and I can check that off my Bucket List - being attacked by a huge swarm of honey bees. ✔🏁

The term 'docile' domesticated honey bees does not apply when their house is tipped over and scattered about in the rain. Been beekeeping for half a decade without wearing any PPE or using a smoker - I love my honey bees and I would say that the beestings felt somewhat therapeutic in nature, boosting my immune system.

Everyone is so worried about the bees, i think it should be noted how helpful and caring the locals were. Unlucky you guys were attacked by bees but lucky you weren't alone. This is a great illustration of why people need to be aware of whats happening around you when travelling, because you cannot prepare for everything. You both handled the experiance pretty well in my opinion i don't think i would be as calm as you.
