Time Stamps Below - I apologize for such a long video. Please feel free to skip if you don't have time. Today, I transferred 2 swarms from traps to permanent hives. Each transfer was full of great stuff, in my opinion. I just couldn't stop videoing. Highlights include me dropping a half of a frame of brood comb with bees, finding both queens in their swarms, showing how to save the bees' hard work by using rubber bands to hang comb built outside the frames, watching one of the queens seek out empty cells and then laying eggs in them, topped off with some of THE BEST capped brood frames I've ever seen from swarm queens. Maybe a few more little tidbits in there that you might find of interest. Thanks for watching!
Time Stamps:
14:30 Blooper
16:05 Shout-Out
17:25 1st Queen Laying Eggs Up-Close
19:00 Rubber Band Remedy
24:45 2nd Queen
25:47 Brood Galore

Thank you for catching her laying eggs, all the bee videos I have watched, and have only seen it once or twice! Trying to catch a swarm this year for the first time, but not many bees in western Kansas!

I ended up being in the right place at the right time in regards to her laying eggs. Honestly, it was the first time I got to witness that. I was almost giddy. 😂

I LOVED watching all your 'crap'. It made me see that other beekeepers have the same issues that the rest of us have. Looking for more of your videos. I love your slow and easy approach and.... catching the queen searching for empty cells...and then laying in them...was the absolute climax of the entire video. Hope that many more will get to see it!

Thank you so much Bit for your kind words. I enjoyed this experience and so far the hive is doing well. I appreciate you watching our videos and I hope to put out more in the near future. Will be harvesting honey this weekend, so maybe there will be something there of interest to video. Thanks again!!! :)

A medium frame in a deep box works fine. Just go with it as the bees are happy. You can continue to use it as a deep.

What if I was to put a bee hive box with total fixed box upon a tree for a swarm of bees. I would not be going through this operation twice would I.

Can you please elaborate on your comments about potential drawbacks to swarm trapping and “sometimes you get a swarm that isn’t worth keeping”?
@washfamapiary659
@washfamapiary659 3 ай бұрын
Swarm trapping is fun and very productive, but occasionally you get a very small swarm in there and the amount of work involved in trapping and closing it up at night and transporting can outweigh a small swarm that you have to babysit for weeks to keep it going. But, that is just my opinion. I've also caught a couple and even found the queen, but she never started laying so they gradually wound down to nothing. I guess that is what I was referring to. ;)

i had a swarm last year I shook into a nuc box out of a tree, didn't pay any attention to it and put the frames and lid in then left the nuc sit there for a day or two and went back at night to retrieve it, got it back to my apiary and again didn't pay any attention to it (as you said, sometimes we can't get to everything and during swarm season it is crazy time on my homestead) .... finally about a week later I went to inspect it to see if I could find eggs/larva and part of a small tree limb had fallen into it diagonally when I shook them out of the tree. Then literally build comb between that limb and all 5 frames gluing it to the bottom of the nuc box. I like to never got those frames out of there and got it straightened out.

That’s a great example of what I was talking about. They will build just about anything in any space. I bet that was a lot of fun figuring that one out. :)

@@washfamapiary659 it wasn't as bad as the one today ... Today I had a hive that i alternated plastic comb and frames with starter wax .... The bees built horizontal comb from a plastic comb through the starter frame and connected it to the next plastic frame. Then built comb from the top bars down, essentially gluing 3 frames together. I had to have a talk with them about laying off the fermented sugar slash alcohol. Lol. Some days i think they are like .... I bet Ed has never seen this yet. Lol.
