What I love about the Swarmkeeper is how broad its possibility space is for character aesthetic and flavor. Variants of this core conceit almost write themselves. I came up with an entire list of Swarmkeeper character concepts: -Locusts: Desert dwelling bandit, raids villages for supplies and strips them of everything of value. -Squirrels: It's Squirrel Girl. 'Nuff said. -Grasshoppers: Traveling violinist, clad in green. Wears boots of striding and springing. A different approach to the Bard aesthetic. -Cats: A crazy cat lady. Haunted One background, that leaves her slightly mad. In combat, throws hand axes, cats. -Bats: Uses the "Vampire" race template from those Magic: The Gathering "Plane Shift" articles (Plane Shift: Zendikar or Plane Shift: Ixalan). A gothic character, may or may not be evil. Really leans into the bat motif part of vampirism. -Rats: Goblin living beneath a major city. Trains rats to steal for them. Defender of the poor, rats. -Songbirds: Disney-style elven princess, sent to live in the wilderness at a young age to protect her against those plotting to usurp the throne. Was taught to use a sword and bow, to defend herself. Learned to commune with wilderness creatures. Sheltered from the cynical world, and is thus slightly naive, but has a noble heart. Returns to civilization to remove the despotic usurpers from the throne. -Jellyfish: Triton assassin. Combines weapon training with poison to perform jobs. -Centipedes: Part of the personal guard to the emperor of an infernalist dynasty. (In Asian culture, centipedes are unclean creatures, often associated with hell much as flies are in Western culture). -Ants: Dwarf commander of a squad of soldiers. Patrols in and around dwarven tunnels. -Spiders: Drow scout that leads beasts, intruders into traps. Wears slippers of spider climb. -Clockwork: Inventor (or inventor's assistant) from Kaladesh - possibly Warforged - surrounded by servos and thopters. Alternatively, an explorer that gained a connection to Mechanicus. -Crabs: Pirate once marooned on an island by a mutinous crew. Communed with crabs during their stay. Seeks fortune, a new ship, and revenge. -Butterflies: Eladrin elf created magically from a swarm of butterflies, in order to cover the escape of a fae noble under attack. The character is the only one of the several defenders created to survive. Wanders the planes looking for purpose. -Bees: Personal guard to the Queen of a small but militant isolationist nation, known for its fruit, flowers, and honey exports. Wears black and yellow striped uniform, carries a rapier. -Snakes: Yuan-ti agent sent to undermine the outer world. Grew disillusioned with their mission. Works as a circus performer as a cover. -Hedgehogs: Pikeman in heavy armor that's covered in spikes. Uses Heavily Armored and Sentinel/Polearm Master feats. -Ravens: Shadar-kai elf spy and informant. Scouts out enemy camps, and plumbs forgotten repositories of knowledge. -Worms: Hill Dwarf that explores caves and dungeons. Only likes to come up to the surface when it rains. Uses a whip in combat.

I'm new to D&D, just discovered this subclass a few hours ago, and IMMEDIATELY thought of a halfling beekeeper that lives just past the outskirts of town, selling honey, raw beeswax, beeswax products, and bee (anti-)venom. He's quite friendly and sociable, but he has no problem dealing with marauders thanks to a field filled with apiaries that he can cause to swarm on his command, combined with venom-dipped bolts for his crossbow.

A while back I came up with an idea, it could be an interesting campaign to see. The idea was to have a party made of characters based on characters from fairytales, legends, folklore, and fables. So you could have a Swarmkeeper Ranger based on the Aesop's Fable of The Grasshopper and the Ants paired up with a party that has other characters based on other storybook characters. And you don't yourself to storybook tales from Europe, every culture has its own fairytales and fables. China has the fairytale of the Boy with the Magic Paintbrush, a story about a boy with a pure heart who always paints from the heart who is gifted a magic paintbrush that can have a curse effect by a supernatural being; Japan has the fairytale of The Grateful Crane, a story about a crane that feels the need to return favor after favor to the people that help it. Just imagine what a party made up of characters based on all this could be like. I just like playing around with character concepts, if a subclass fits with my character concept then I'm going to try building my character concept with that subclass.

And Hexblade the rest with pact of the chain for the familiar and enhanced healing for myself. So I fire a sharpshooter shot and then quicken eldritch blast which gives me decent damage. My DM ruled I can eldritch smite with a hexbow because the wording is weird on that smite so I basically snipe from the back and grant the help action while being able to move through shadow if need be. Its mostly a charisma and dex with my con being my third stat build but we rolled our stats. @@lukelloyd8976 I wanted to dedicate my invocations to more utility stuff like the eye ones and the max healing from keeping my familiar within 100 ft of me. Action surge helps crank out more damage for a quick nova round too. I didnt crank up my intelligence because I'm using the sorcerer spellcasting for the shadowblade. The EK spells are just buff spells or spells I convert to sorcerer points since they're level 1 spells. I'd like to try a ranged battlesmith if this character gets killed or we do a new campaign.

@thefracturedbutwhole54754 жыл бұрын
All the ranger subclasses from Xanathar's are pretty good, even the hunter is okay, the beast-masters sucks ass though, the horizon walker is cool, they can teleport before each attack, walk through walls etc..., monster slayer lets you actually feel like a hunter of monsters, you get a (slightly weaker) built in hunters mark, you can foil spells, and you have the ability to analyze a creatures weaknesses, if you fight 1 vampire (or whatever, maybe a rare creature nobody knows about) and analyze it you know the weakness of all of them, and by extension you would be able to tell if a vampire or whatever had unusual resistances or vulnerabilities. Rangers are cool and can be very strong, if you steer clear of the PHB subclasses.

I play a tabaxi artillerist swarmkeeper who commands a British Victorian-style infantry of house cats in uniform who help fire the Eldritch Cannon, and are shot out of said cannon. My DM also allowed me to flavor their damage as spiritual pellet gun damage in conjunction with my musket shots in order to give that firing squad feel. His name is Colonel Myartin Garfeld Furbanks VII. He also loves scotch. There’s some confusion however with the rules as written. The swarm stays in your space until death, but it has to move in order to move targets, do damage on ranged shots, or being applied to the Mage Hand spell. My DM almost ruled my not being able to use them for ranged attacks, until we clarified a few things.

Order of Scribes Wizard + Swarmkeeper Ranger. Your awakened spellbook is the swarm. The Swarm doesn't specify weapon attacks so getting the chance to move enemies up to 15 feet or deal 1d6 additional damage whenever you hit them with a spell attack roll seems really useful. "The attack's target must succeed on a Strength saving throw against your spell save DC or be moved by the swarm up to 15 feet horizontally in a direction of your choice." Would this spell save DC use your intelligence if you use wizard spells to trigger the feature?

Omg drider armorer swarm shadow clone armor swap places. Okay question you make armorer lv15 and class swap 14 lvs do i keep all my armorer modifications and bonded arcane armor Like 6 spore druid 9 armorer have metallic sporearmor undead and i swap 8 levels of artificer into scribe, do i lose Arcane armor Arcane metal spores Arcane armor undead Arcane infused spores And spell focus arcane metal spore armor. Or keep it like a curse as a living armor Trick is i think is never don off your arcane armor.
