I’ve worked every nights for years and in the last few years..I haven’t had the energy to keep things in Ship- Shape...especially since my car accident...nine years ago. I've seen several lawn companies get the cops called on them. That's after the complaining neighbor yells at them. One "person" was very upset that no-one would help her (she was a pregnant single person with two baby daddies) and she angrily insisted he come over and clean up her yard. He didnt.

The church parking lot next to my house is now maintained by a parishioner and his son. But before that is was not cleared for at least a year although the church grounds were kept immaculate. No one stepped up until his man did, and they spent 3 days removing trash, leaves, trimming tree branches and hauling it away. As much as we like to think people will step up, most don’t, they moan and complain, then wait for someone else to do something. FYI the church is in affluent area.

@susanb4481, Churches bleed as much money out of us as they can and on top of that want free labor from people who work full time jobs and maintain their own properties. I've never seen a pastor get off his lazy, complaining azz, roll up his sleeves and start working on what needs to be done! Doing that would inspire others to pitch in and help.

The church next door to my house is kept up meticulously by a few people EXCEPT a large area BEHIND the church, adjacent to my property. It cannot be seen from the street, so they don't bother to do anything to it. But the same person who keeps up the front area calls the city and complains about all the neighbors in the block if their yards aren't kept meticulously too! So their appearance to the public is super tidy, but they can't be bothered with what the public cannot see, and they aren't charitable to me, with severe arthritis, or my neighbor dying of congestive heart failure. And they wonder why churches are dying.

There was a private road between our previous office and a church. We both installed a gate at our end to stop cars speeding through our parking lots. People cut the locks. We organized a clean up of the area. The church declined our invitation to help and their maintenance/groundskeeper confronted us while we were working. Then the homeless camp turned up. Then the police asked us to open the gate so the m e t h lab eradication van could get back there. Good times. Sean, you stay safe out there.

Hey! Your cleaning service in this courtyard was very good.... Now here's a suggestion for the faithful of this church, which seems quite large... When someone offers to help with cleaning your church. Be willing to have a few people over and help clean up the yard. And if possible, even bring cold water, which is the role of the church, to serve others. One hand washes the other, and both hands wash the face.

i go to a hispanic church where the congregation does put in the work cleaning up the land cutting the grass. the men and the youth doing the work and the women cooking a delicious meal and aguas frescas. Honestly feels like family. The pastor out there too putting work.

Nice job, Sean! First time seeing anyone chop up a sofa on KZbin. You made it look so easy and simple. If the alleyway is not to be used as a drive through or parking lot, maybe the local community should turn it into a community garden, and plant some fruits, vegetables and flowers. They need to put up a fence at both ends to deter drivers. Rocks and logs not going to deter them. The house at the end of the alley doesn't even maintain their stretch of alley.

It is a conundrum. The overgrowth stopped the drive throughs (if there ever was any) but attracted the trash. Now that visibility has been greatly improved, other issues may ensue. Seems like a BIG RAISED PLANTER solution.

One thing I'd like to see happen is the church spreading your name and the help you bring to the community. In hopes that some of the grouchier folks in your videos, and others like them in the future, will take a step back and appreciate the hard work you're trying to do for the community. The Detroit area is a great place to do what you do and it could keep an army of midlife stockmen busy. What really stinks is now the house is wide open for anyone to go inside. Any kind of creep can be there when the children come home. I don't even want to know what kind of trauma it will cause the kids. Maybe the church you're helping can help and put a new door back up.

Amazing makeover!!! I used to take care of the grounds at my church when I was young and in my 20's. I mowed and pulled weeds by hand, no edger. I remember I had a long handled pair of hedge clippers that I would remove the low lying branches and any scraggly tree shoots. This brought back a lot of memories. Although I totally understand wanting to stop traffic through the alley, it is probably illegal to block it off. You did a great job! Everything is so clean and tidy! I am sure the person living next to the church appreciates it as much, if not more, than the church people do! They seem just worried about the cost if it wasn't cleaned.
