Amazing job with the swatching!, I have the 32 set but wish I’d managed to get the Art Nouveau instead. The big set is lovely but a bit bright for my aesthetic and i rarely use reds and pinks which there are a lot of. However they’re hard to get and expensive in the UK so i got mine on a trip to Tokyo along with the graphite ones, which are my faves!

Art Nouveau is a lovely set - Kuretake's products have become quite common here in Australia, which I'm happy about. As you say, Japanese products can be very expensive (Holbein pencils here, for example). I'd also buy stuff in Japan, if we manage to get there any time soon. 😊

Only the original 12 set has duplicates, and the second set they released are the extra colours which end up making the whole 48 set box. Art Nouveau has even more colours, none of which are duplicates to the others. It gets so confusing when multiple extra sets are released, haha! 😂

Thanks for doing this swatching and sharing with us. It's very helpful to see them all in this arrangement. I purchased an original 36 set a few years ago and recently purchased the Art Nouveau set. Of course that meant I had to acquire the missing 12 which I did by purchasing individual pans from Jetpens. I didn't realize there was actually a set of the 12 already curated. Oh well. I also had the speciality sets of 6 pans except for the Opals. I didn't think they would be useful for me. I knew about the Gofun White but it was not available when I purchased the other individual pans. From your swatching, I can see that I do not need that one. It's an interesting color offering but I would have to think of a use for it. Thanks for saving me on that purchase for now. With all these colors, it would be hard to imagine any missing colors but from your chart, it's obvious that there are not many browns or even oranges/warm yellows. Maybe the next set released will be browns, oranges and more earth colors. Oh no, another box we'll need to purchase!
@BeckyTregear Жыл бұрын
I am sure more colours will be released eventually, to drive us all mad, haha! I also purchased my 12B set from Jetpens as it was the only place that seemed to have it. Then of course....out came the 48 set. Sigh!

They're also available in some places as single pans, so it's easy enough to replace them should you run out. I haven't tried the Finetec ones but I've heard good things about those as well. @@BeckyTregear I have no problem with the pans not being filled to the brim. They are so large that I guess that they're equal to at least normal half-pans. They are gorgeous and fun. However, my unsolicited advice is look for a more traditional set that is transparent with single pigments. If you buy these because they inspire you to try watercolor (a great reason to get them, BTW!), know that they are opaque and multi-pigmented. Don't get discouraged if they sometimes make mud for you when you try to mix them. Just get yourself a set of traditional watercolors (I started with the Daniel Smith split primary mixing set of 6) and work with those for awhile, and also have fun with the Kuretakes.

Do the graphite paints rub after they dry?
@BeckyTregear Жыл бұрын
As in do they smudge? No, they stay put which is nice. They will get shinier if buffed with a metal spoon.

@@BeckyTregear Do you have some info why this works? Do you need a stainless steel spoon or a silver one or aluminium? I tried google but couldn't find anything, perhaps I worded the searches wrongly. Now I'm curious about this and I hope you'll have the time to give me a hint on where to look. Thank you for activating my "WANT-receptors" by showing the beauty of all those colours 🤣 💜

@@3534538 Honestly I'm going off the information from viewers, as a lot of people commented in my graphite paint video - it's just metal rubbing against graphite which makes it shine, so anything metal and rounded would probably do the job. I need to do further experiments! My Want Monster always wakes up when Kuretake releases a new set! 😂

@@BeckyTregear Thank you so much for your reply 🤗 I have a tool for rounding paper flower petals, I think I'll try that. I don't have the paint yet but I have some graphite-watercolour-pencils and I guess they'll work for now. I'm hoping for a subtle shine 🙂 Again, thank you - for all your videos 🥰

Why not swap out one of your repeat colours with the new white?

don't they have a 100 color anniversary set? seems a better deal if you want 100 colors

art neuvou has one color overlaping the 48 set, 红梅

@@oaktharas They do have a big box! My collection has been bought over a long period of time, so I couldn't justify rebuying them again as a full set. I already had duplicates from upgrading the 36 set to the 48. I gave my dad the spares. 😊

Как на счет светостойкости этих красок?!

I haven't tested them for myself yet, but all the pigment info is on their page and hopefully that helps answer whether or not they're lightfast. A few of the red pigments they use are unfamiliar to me!

It is a common mistake to refer to Gansai paints as watercolor. However, Gansai is a distinct type of paint. Calling Gansai "watercolor" is as incorrect as calling acrylic paint "watercolor." Each of these is a different medium: Acrylic is its own medium. Watercolor is its own medium. Gouache is its own medium. Oil paint is its own medium. And Gansai is its own medium. Until people understand that Gansai is not watercolor, they will likely continue to feel frustrated when using it. *Not that you are frustrated with them, but some people are because they are expecting them to behave like a watercolor paint! Edited to add: I say this with the UTMOST RESPECT to you. I hope you don't feel bad me saying all this! ❤

It's ok, I understand! But to me, it really does feel like watercolour! I use it in exactly the same way so while I know it's different, I tend to lump it in together with watercolours - naughty, I know!

Kuretake's reds are definitely NOT lightfast. All the reds when diluted completely fade after 4-6 months of sun exposure; when applied in masstone the considerably fade within 4-6 months. Their oranges and some purples also fade severely.

I want to get a swatch chart up into the window so I can do a full test of all the colours.
