Today I'm swatching my collection of 40 Daniel Smith watercolor paints that I've been collecting over the last couple of years. Some of these colors are gorgeous - can you guess which ones are my favorites?

There are worse things than being a professional watercolour swatcher! Rewatching as I’m about to buy some more DS-already have the undersea green and I just want to sit there and cover page after page with it and watch it dry.

Ha ha, this is true! I actually have quite a few more since I did this video, they went on offer with Jackson's and I couldn't resist... but I agree about the undersea green, will always be one of my favorites! Which ones have you been eyeing up?

@@eviedivadoodles At first I thought I would get the Jean Haines master set of 10, because it has several of the colours I want. But then I looked at the Inspiration half pan set, as it has rose of ultramarine, moonglow, shadow violet, cascade green and green apatite genuine. And I would get a metal palette with the DS logo and 12 empty spaces where I could add lunar black and any of other colour I fall in love with. So many lovely choices. So far I have DS buff titanium, undersea green, green gold and transparent red oxide. The other brands I have are Sennelier and Rosa Gallery (made in Ukraine and available at several places here in Canada at very reasonable prices).

great video, thank you! but, please, tell me where do you get DS 5 ml tubes for 5 to 6 euros in Europe? or are they that cheap in the Netherlands? I am really curious.

I've picked them up before at Van Beek in the Netherlands! But that was a while ago when they started stocking the smaller tubes and had promotions!

I had bought two full pans of Roman Szmal watercolors about a year ago. Perylene Green Deep and Vivianite. I was immediately in love. BUT THEY WERE OUT OF STOCK FOR THE LONGEST!! And then Jackson's restocked all the colors AND had a Roman Szmal sale (very good marketing on their part 🤣). And now I own just under 60 and my cart is filled another 45 or so that I want. Just waiting for another sale, lol. If you love Green Apatite Genuine, Undersea Green, and Serpentine Genuine (my three absolute favorite greens by Daniel Smith) then I highly HIGHLY recommend Roman Szmal's Autumn Green and Aquarius Green.

Oh Amy... you TAUNT me! 🤣 I'm now going to have to peek at them on the Jackson's site.. though I do believe I have the Aquarius green in my favorites waiting for it to come back into stock.. and I do have just ONE SPOT left in my Roman Szmal palette - which is housing a rogue DS Undersea Green! 🤣

I feel you on the larger tubes. I love napthamide maroon and would have been happy with 5ml, but no, they have to make half in enormous tubes. Various colours here that I don’t use, but have got me thinking. I want to play around with larger abstracts and try some different colours and combinations.

That's the one good thing about the larger tubes, they do free you up to make bigger pieces! Maybe we should make a pact to work on a bigger abstract piece a month? Help us use up those bigger tubes and get creative with it! 😉

I totally feel the hesitation in using my DS tubes!!But I've found that if you just make a palette and start using it, they're SOO highly pigmented they last a long time! Much longer than you'd expect! Great video, I am head over heels for the Undersea green and any of the lunar colors. Spectacular granulation!! But my all-time fave is Moonglow!! It's in all of my palettes! I love using it as a neutral and for shadows, it really bring them to life!! Thanks and reemebere- Don't be afraid of wasting the "good" supplies, YOU'RE worth it!!

Ah, such a lovely comment, thank you! I've actually spent this morning putting all my 'granulating' Daniel Smith colors into a palette, including the Lunas and moon glow - will be testing them out throughout the week! 😎

I recently bought my first Daniel Smith paints, just to get my hands on special granulating ones (Moonglow, Lunar Blue, Lunar Black, Sodalite Genuine, Geothite) and now I'm mildly obsessed with Moonglow. I think that is what I used in my recent Thranduil painting for the background on the left side. The two color effect is so amazing! Funny how your partner was jelly of your vibing with the paints. My husband also recently said something similar and now wants to draw more often. The Idanthrone Blue and Naphthamide Maroon are absolutely stunning! I've had the Daniel Smith full dot card on my Amazon wishlist for a while and it's currently out of stock, but one of these days I'll get my hands on it and check out their full range... My wallet will weep afterwards, but DS really has some cool and unique paints.

Oh, you picked some gorgeous DS pains - I too love the moon glow, lunar blue and sodalite gen! They granulate amazingly don't they? 😍 Yeah - my OH actually has plenty of art supplies that both I and his parents have given to him as gifts over the years, but they mostly sit untouched in a drawer. He even bought himself an easel and three canvases last year, and has yet to use them... I may have 'borrowed' a canvas and used it poorly to encourage him to paint over it - no such luck yet! 🤣

@@eviedivadoodlesYou might need to tell him those paints and canvases will go bad after a while. So either he uses them soon or you will have to sacrifice yourself and "take care of them". 😉

Oh, now there's a thought, getting a sketchbook that's veeeeery long! 🥰 I ended up taking out all the pans in the palette and making it a complete palette of my Daniel Smith paints last night. So satisfying, and it inspired me to doodle two mini landscapes too! 😂 Thank you - I suspect it isn't going to happen until he eventually retires, and then he'll read books instead! 😂
