The color commentators were discussing the Benn hit and this is what they concluded. The officials who reviewed the tape were really focused on the direction of Carlo's skates, to the point they actually circled them digitally on the monitor. So the argument from their perspective is that Carlo was in motion to retrieve the puck in parallel to the boards. His skates do show he was initially going in that direction. As we all know it is perfectly legal (and safe ) to check another player if both players are parallel to the boards and heading in the same direction. It's a simple shoulder/shoulder check, and not on the numbers. However, Carlo changes direction at the last minute and by this time Benn is committed to the hit and too late to stop it, so he catches him on the numbers and we all saw the unfortunate result. And I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the refs' interpretation. If anything, I'd have liked to see some effort on Benn's part to dial the hit back but we're not in Benn's skates, so who can say? Happy to see Carlo is ok and was able to return.

Swayman was a great backup goalie. His contract situation came up at the perfect time...just as he was riding out a backup role on two decent teams; one of them very, very good. How many decent goalies would have a decent show on those teams? Right now, this team has $11.25M in goalies and $14.5M in two defensemen (McAvoy & Zadorov) amongst a lot who is putting up a lot of zeros in terms of goals and SOGs. From a prospect/rookie/NewGuy situation, this situation is ripe for those few (like the 4th line during the first 12 games or so) to make a place in the NHL. Maybe they're not that motivated...or good? It's there. Take it. No takers? Reminder: most of the time players don't get that chance or they get one as an injury comes around. It's there for those who really do intend to follow through.

Great points Brian. leadership is a big part of the problem here. Combine that with coach tuned out, and mostly 3rd liners, and mid goaltending, the team will miss the playoffs. And they need to, because they don't have the talent to even be considered a cup contender.

Besides Swayman being rewarded 8.25m and playing mediocre, they were forced to give up 17 goal scorer Heinen and others to create cap space for this spoiled Swayman. And letting Hathaway walk the summer before turned out to be a good pick up for the Flyers. Living in the Phila area I often watch the Flyers; he is a positive factor in every game.

I feel like DeBrusk,Heinen, Boquist, etal brought more to the table than given credit for by management. Right now this team is not playing well. Ultimately it will cost Montgomery his job. At some point players need to be held accountable. The team at the moment seems to be just going through the motions. They paid Swayman a ton of money and so far he hasn’t played that well. If they continue to play in this manner the playoffs are the least of their concerns as they won’t be in them. For whatever reason the players are not playing with passion.

To Brian's point on player leadership. Something is off here. If player attitude towards the coach is an issue then what do Monty and Cassidy have in common? Marchand, Pasta, and McAvoy. I like Marchand as a player. They will probably hang his number in the Garden rafters some day but is he a good Captain? I don't know. I'm not sure that Pasta and McAvoy are the right choices for the 'A'. Both are mentally soft and undisciplined. Pasta should concentrate on being the best version of himself and McAvoy's letter should go to Coyle.

I am not going to defend Jeremy Swayman but for goodsakes cut him some slack he and the Bruins management had a ugly business transaction before he sign so even though they put it behind them there still maybe blank and plus he didn't start early in camp he started late so miss much of the training camp.

They should have let him walk for nothing and gone bussy and corpi. Probably have a better record up to this point. 😂. Sway has played in what 10 games? The preseason excuse Is just an excuse at this point he's played enough.

Imagine being genetically gifted to be a 6’5” 200+ pound behemoth of a human and playing like a traffic cone?! Whoever coaches our defense and tells them to just backup and protect their zone instead of pressuring the puck possessor needs to be fired into the Sun. Why construct one of the biggest teams in NHL history and have them not be aggressive and use that size to their advantage? We’re just letting teams easily enter the blue line and then when we do bite and pressure the puck possessor, our big bodies end up screening our goalie and the impeding shot

The Bruins need a rebuild. We have been trying to be the best team in the league with the same players year after year; those players are not the best team. Even our offseason aquisitions are just not good enough. Time to rebuild. The Swayman signing at that number was a huge mistake. Swayman should give his agent $1.5million/yr (that is half of the $3million, maybe more, he is being overpaid).

Because he missed all of camp, Swayman is using the regular season as his training camp. They're playing as though their under a cloud of impending doom, of their own making with no one on the ice willing to make the gaffe that triggers calamity. 😐

Swayman might have let in 3 bad goals . What the hell is everyone talking about. The rest of the game was a complete lazy Bruins team in front of him that couldn't make a pass to save a life. Can't clear the zone or play D in front of Sway. ULLY would be suffering the same fate right now, trust me. This team needs to wake up!! They send Poitras back down. Arguably the best forward on the ice and I don't care what any of u think about that. "He only had five points." Say it, come on. Well I wonder why that was? Monty refuses to put him up on the first line with talent like Marshy and Pasta. Players that may be able to take a pass and play with his skill set. But no, they leave him on third line and fed him to thr wolves. Coyle should have been put on third C or maye Second C and Or Lindholm. Oh but they won't do that. Nooo, don't want to admit signing him was a bust. U also cant get consistently when u line juggle like a bartender mixing drinks all night. What a joke. Fire Monty today. They clearly lack structure and basic determination!!! U gotta win puck battles consistently. U can't tell me, the same God damn team as last year, with Lindholm and Zeddy upgrades made the team overall this bad!!? No, it is a player vs. coach problem. Monty has gotta go. This team does have talent. But they lost their way for sure.

Swayman let in only? 3 bad goals? He's supposed to be elite?
@bigdoggames97952 күн бұрын
@walkerpercy8702 correct. But u also have play D in front of an elite goalie, too. They have not. Im Not saying he didn't play bad. But allowing 7 goals in numerous occasions doesn't just fall on the goalie. It's the whole team. I've seen him make enough saves. Saves that need to go the other way for us in the back of the net!! They still lack effort. Everyone skating around waiting for someone to do the work. To me again, that's coaching. Monty said it best a game ago when he told the media to figure out what they're doing wrong. Not to that exact statement. But to that effect. Well, that's telling. He had lost the team. It's just a fact. It's time for a change when u lose the room.

Monty was the coach of last year's overachieving team. But, now he can't coach?
@bigdoggames97952 күн бұрын
@Leroy-df3ee I don't think he coached much to be honest? I think he let the players ffp the work. But now the excitement of something new is gone. Monty has to put thr work in and I think whatever he's doing isn't working!? Now yes, the players gotta play. Not the coach. But he needs to find ways to keep them invested and I think so far this year he hasn't. I don't think they over achieved last year at all. Maybe it's just gotten stale. Dunno. Something has got tp give though, and fast.

Sways a good backup goalie. Nothing more and you're paying a backup 8.25 mil a year and paying a third line center first line money, you have a 3rd rep defenseman playing 1st rep money and time on the ice, McAvoy is having to do too much and is making too many mistakes, pasta's back is hurting from carrying this team for now 3 season. Its a bunch of overpaid mid line players.

You want to blame Swayman? We are just as poor in goals for than goals against. We've already been shut out 3 times. It doesn't matter what the goalie does when you score no goals! Some of the goals on Swayman last night were 3 on 1, 2 on 1, 2 on 1 and a penalty shot that should not have been called, but still we can't blame Swayman. And I'm tired of hearing about the officials. The entire team is playing the worst hockey of their careers. Do you know what this means? IT MEANS THE COACH HAS LOST THE TEAM. Monty needs to be FIRED and he should have been fired a long time ago. Have yall ever played hockey? Do you not see that our defense is standing still. They aren't skating. They aren't moving their feet. This is how someone plays when they had too much to drink the night before and have a hangover, except with the entire team, and they've had a hangover all damn year. This is what happens when a team has lost faith in their leadership.
