I read a story once about an old, retired ventriloquist who ran a restaurant/motel in the middle of nowhere. He had a young, sexy wife he was very mean to & jealous over. She was essentially a prisoner there. No family or education, she was very unhappy, but had no money, or means to run away. One day, a handsome young stranger came into the restaurant (where she was a server), and they became smitten and decided to run away together that night. At the appointed time she was supposed to meet him in his room, there was a knock on the door. It was the old ventriloquist. He said hed found out about their plan, but wasn't angry. He knew he was getting older, and she needed security, but couldn't stand to see her go, so he invited the young man to his apartment, so they could ask the girl herself what she preferred. The old man went into the back room alone, then after a min, called the young man in. The girl sat next to the old man on the sofa, obviously scared stiff and ghostly white w fear. Noticing a black eye, the young lover suggested they leave, but she looked at the old man, and shook her head. She told him in a monotone voice that she decided to stay. Seeing how she was so still, and obviously intimidated, she wouldn't even raise her arms, and kept her hands folded in her lap. Angrily, and frustrated, the young man turned, and as he walked out the door, slammed it as hard as he could...causing the girl to fall forward and exposing the hole in her head, from which the old man had been controlling her jaw and head movements.
