Hello Matt! I have recently stumbled upon a study that studied the difference of crampers (people who experienced crampes) and non-crampers during a marathon. The results showed that dehydration and electrolyte depletion were not different between the two groups. But the significance difference was that crampers had greater muscle damage compared to the non-crampers. Meaning that it was due to either over-training or under training the crampers experienced cramps. Also side note: 25% of crampers did strength training meanwhile 47% of non-crampers did strength training. hope this helped Matt! Article title: muscle cramping in the marathon: Dehydration and electrolyte depletion vs muscle damage. (2022).

From a mental standpoint, is it nerve wracking to adjust paces so much to factor in your current altitude/weather, and then trust that you’ll be ready for your actual goal pace come race day? I know I struggle with believing that my paces will get faster in cooler weather when I see that my current paces in the summer heat are not where I’d like them to be. Will you do any workouts at sea level to reassure yourself or will you just trust the process and your pace conversions? Loving the series! It’s my favorite thing to watch on KZbin currently! Thank you for sharing your journey and educating us!

Just some notes from someone who’s lived at high altitude for the last 26 years and is a runner (MUT though!). First though, good effort when it got tough. You might think about taking in some more carbs during the run which will give your muscles more fuel and hopefully make it less likely you will cramp. I say this because although it’s not known exactly what causes cramps, neuromuscular fatigue, so the connection between nerves and muscles, is known to be a big part of the problem. Therefore, if you give your brain and muscles more of what they mainly use for fuel (CHO), it should help your body to work a little less hard and hopefully stave off the cramps. I could go on, but I’m trying to keep it simple. Keep up the good work and the excellent videos.

Matt - Great series Interesting that you look for the Maltodextrin similar to Maurten Mix 160/320. Have you ever tried getting carbs from Sucrose found in something like tailwind? I live in Florida where it’s hot and find personally Sucrose more friendly to my stomach allowing me to ingest more as I was having similar cramping issues using both Maurten mix drinks. Hi, Matt. Thank you for showing us your training. Question: How does a coach match the different capabilities of three different runners training together in a single workout? Please share any ideas that we might use as amateurs when we train with friends. Thank you. 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️ 🏃🏻
@sweatelite2 жыл бұрын
Good question Burps, this was a tricky one but ultimately the other 2 were a little flexible with their training on this day. Nell is training for a few 10k's coming up and probably wouldn't normally be running 6:10/mi in the middle of her long run but just did it to join us this time. Luis is just returning to training and was up for doing a longish tempo run and just did it with me during my long run. No set way to do this other than to be a bit creative with it.

@@sweatelite I see. Thank you for explaining that. At least some of the runners have to be flexible and “meld” that training day into the other runner(s). Appreciate you. Thx

Thanks Matt for the insights in your training. I got a question , what's your plan for race day regarding fuelling ? Since you're not in the elite pack you can't have the personalized bottles, so wondering if you will have a friend hand them to you or carry gels and use race water stations ?

Hi Matt, Loving the series, the insights into your training and how you are dealing with the cramping issue. Have you thought about doing a biomechanical/running analysis to see if there is anything there that might explain cramps in certain areas ? Your technique looks good but you never know what an expert might find. From my kinesiology studies I know that overstriding can lead to hamstring overload for example.

Hey Matt, great series! One small thing, but have you ever worn a hat while running? It might not make any difference (and I know a lot of people find them uncomfortable) but keeping the direct sun off your face might just make you a couple of degree cooler and marginally help the heating/sweating issues? Just a thought.

@sweatelite2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Foxrunner! I do all the easy runs fasted but intervals/threshold/tempo/long runs usually eat prior to if i wake up early enough! Normally just a banana or bagel. Kenyans typically do the same, but there's no set rule there obviously. Most I met would eat a slice of bread or similar before hard workouts and nothing before easy runs. But they're all different.

Honestly, I did not like the video, as indeed the latest publications. I have to be honest Matt once on a longnrun you could see 32 minutes of running and only 2 3 minutes of talking, now it's the other way around. For some time now the contents have been a bit lacking in my opinion, I often find myself seeing old episodes where athletes were filmed during entire training sessions, now I see very little material, very few videos, despite many athletes are training. I had also subscribed to the channel thinking about more videos but those have stopped too, so I decided that at the moment I will cancel the subscription and then maybe resume it later. I hope you can take this as constructive criticism and not as an attack because I have been following you literally from day one
@sweatelite2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, appreciate the feedback! I'm glad that you enjoy the scenes of the running and the nature etc. Personally I'm not convinced publishing a video with the majority of the footage showing people running at a similar pace to be overly interesting to most people and furthermore, there is a little more than 2-3min of run footage in this episode. We do look at the analytics of the videos and scenes including information and discussion tend to be watched more than others. Regarding video frequency - at the moment with the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and European Championships all on in the same 5 week period, the majority of the professional athletes are travelling and racing and therefore training videos during this time will not be so frequent. Thank you for your understanding with this.
