I wish I could give you a big hug! For years I have struggled with sewing seams to the point where I would just dread making something that I would have to sew! Thank you for your video on sewing seams! I just sewed a mitten up and it came out perfect! Thanks again I am so great full!

Thank you so much! For the first time, I was working on a project at this phase, and got to put one of your lessons into practice. I was stalling, dreading sewing together this kimono sweater, and finally watched this video once more and dived in. It looks gorgeous! I can hardly tell the seam is there! I was getting weird looks (I was working on this at a Starbucks) because I kept grinning every time I took a new stitch and saw how amazingly professional it was looking. No more dread, no more trying to invent or improvise, and taking out the stitches 20 times. This is easy, and looks fantastic! Maybe I will be wearing my sweater before the next millennium, after all. Thanks so much for this great high -- I needed a reason to smile, and now I can't stop! :D

Finally! A video that finishes like my mum used to 😊 no lumpy seams. She finished beautifully and it looked easy (for her). I've always been dreadful at finishing my knitting, now you've given me the tools my mum used (and tried to teach me) many years ago, to do it neatly. Takes the dread out of knitting (almost 😅). Thank you, so happy to have found your video 😊😊

I was dreading this part of knitting my sweater, but now I’m not. This is extremely well done. I especially like the tip about dividing the yarn in half. Your manner is calm and the presentation was well paced, clear, and thorough. I emailed this video to myself and flagged it for future reference. Thanks so much!

Thank you for showing us the proper way to put our knitting together the proper way, and easier way.. i knit every day , been knitting over 65 years,, I’m so glad I learned, as it’s kept me sane trying to cope with the Covid. Thank you for this kind comment Christina. I don't know that my ways are "proper," as there are many ways to do a thing in knitting. However, they do yield a good result. I know what you mean about Covid and sanity. It's quite wonderful to have a meditative, useful thing to do while at home. I have knit a great deal for my family in the past year and it feels very good.

Thank you Cheryl for your tutorial; I have been knitting for so many years now but I love when I learn something new. I use the mattress stitch for seaming but never used the half stitch on the ribbed area 🙄 it just made so much sense I don't know how I didn't "get it" until I watched your video. Best wishes from Dublin, Ireland 👍

I'm using the half stitch weave technique (forming the extra stitch) for the raglan seams of a raglan sweater and the seams look great. I used the normal weave stitch for every other seam, including the cuff ribbing, because I started with a purl and ended with a knit. So I have a totally invisible seam. Thanks for sharing this technique.

Hi Cheryl, I've watched your video a few times while working through a simple cardigan pattern; thank you for sharing. The most useful thing to learn was that I could use a different kind of yarn for seams. I've been working a mattress stitch seam and even though I'm not tugging hard or fast, the yarn tears when cinched. I'm going to try the embroidery floss.

@CherylBrunetteTV
@CherylBrunetteTV 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks . . . I'm glad it helped. Without seeing it I can't recommend anything, really, but because the seam under the collar will be hidden it doesn't have to be perfect.That said, I would probably start by folding it in half and the back of the neck in half and then pin the two pieces together there and ease out from that point. I hope you'll come to cherylbrunette.com and join my email newsletter group if you haven't done so already. That's where I'm in closest touch with knitters. I’m sewing up a cardigan in super bulky yarn and I’m wondering if the half-stitch seam is strong enough for the sides? The pieces are in stockinette.
@CherylBrunetteTV
@CherylBrunetteTV 2 жыл бұрын
It should be, especially if you use a strong thread like embroidery floss, 4 to 6 strands. Using a strong, thin thread will also make for a less bulky seam.

What to do with the rest of the string after seaming to my desired spot? Do I cut it ? What if it comes apart ? What to do?
@CherylBrunetteTV
@CherylBrunetteTV Жыл бұрын
Never cut it off where you end the seam. Leave a long tail and "work it in." There are different ways to do this but a common one is to run it back through the seam allowance so that it's basically invisible from the public side. Here's another way to work the yarn end in: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJPbq6Vtgp6kgc0

Not if you do it right. If someone tugs it apart you'll see it but not if it's in a relaxed state.

@@CherylBrunetteTV I love to knit, but my body's says to put it aside for a while; wondering if this a common occurrence with knitters; I've only been knitting 3 years...
@CherylBrunetteTV
@CherylBrunetteTV 5 жыл бұрын
@@mymusic4714 I think it can be a problem as it can be with any repetitive action. You might check for exercises for knitters. Taking breaks and stretching your fingers/hands, rotating your wrists, rolling your shoulders, etc. Do something that gives you relief in the area of your body that is objecting. I recently had open heart surgery and was surprised that I couldn't comfortably knit for over 8 weeks because of the muscles that are engaged in my sternum area when I knit. I've just gone back to it but am still not able to knit for as long as I used to. This will heal. It just takes time.

I am stalling on sewing the sleeves on to my kimono. because the edges are so curled in. how can i flatten it a little before i sew
@CherylBrunetteTV
@CherylBrunetteTV 7 жыл бұрын
You can block them with steam but depending on the fiber, be careful not to "kill" them. Acrylics can melt. It's the nature of stockinette to curl. It doesn't bother me to sew even with the curl. You can see my technique here. Just take one stitch at a time. Are you on my newsletter mailing list yet at cherylbrunette.com? If not, please join us.

Usually not, but it depends on the fabric. I recently steam-blocked a Cowichan vest I made for my brother just because I thought it would work better. You can see in this video that I did not block the pieces beforehand.
