Sweden’s Kiruna mine forces residents to relocate

Neighbourhoods in a remote Arctic town in the far north of Sweden are in danger of collapsing into the ground because of an ever-expanding iron ore mine.
Kiruna supplies more than three quarters of Europe's raw iron. But over the next 15 years, more than 3,000 homes have to be moved three kilometres to avoid being swallowed up by the mining operation.

it really puts the value of the mine into perspective, it is cheaper for them to rebuild an entire city than it would be for them to stop mining.

Holmstrom needs to learn how to reflect on a subject in an objective way. There wouldn't be any Kiruna to begin with without that mine. Sentimental value is not an argument.

The comment from the man in the intervjue is so immensely stupid! Kiruna only exist due to the mine. Close down the mine and Kiruna will be abandoned within 30 years.

Less than that, all jobs that exists there are either mining jobs or jobs that in some way support the mining. 1 year without mining and everyone there will be looking for a new home in Stockholm.
