Sweden's "no-go zones"

Urban areas in Sweden known as "no-go zones" are allegedly overrun by migrant violence where even the police are instructed not to patrol there. CBSN Originals spoke to Erik Åkerlund, the chief superintendent of Botkyrka municipality.

This is such horses*it. I live in Botkyrka, I grew up in Botkyrka and in the last couple of years it has gotten waaaay worse. Sure it wasn't a great area when i grew up but at least we didn't have shootings, open druguse/distribution and car fires back then. And this guy is a police. I am a Taiwanese being so shocked that Sweden's social safety has changed lots. My first visit to Stockholm was 1986 and it's a peaceful place there. Is there any other reason for so much difference except immigrants ?

Yes, Sweden were not so safe at the 80's either but you just didn't noticed it. Figures from the 2013 Swedish Crime Survey show that exposure to crime decreased from 2005 to 2013. Since 2014 there has been an increase in exposure to some categories of crimes, including fraud, some property crime and especially sexual offences and that mostly because changes in the law. Violence has been on a downward trend the last 25 years. The number of convictions up to 2013 has remained between 110,000 and 130,000 in the 2000s - a decrease since the 1970s, when they numbered around 300,000 - despite the population growth.

i rarely saw police officers in stockholms lan when i was just in new in Sweden in 2012 but when i left in 2019 police has become more visible, security guards are seen in malls and even in train stations... never saw begars in 2012 but they have gone crazy in 2017-2019..witnessed snatching of mobile phones even inside the train ...sad 😞

To be honest, Swedens so called "no go zones" is no where as bad like in other countrys, still these kinds of areas does not belong in sweden. In sweden everyone should feel safe where ever you are, and clearly everybody dosent feel safe in these areas, and thats the goverments fault!

Lived and worked in Stockholm for 8 years around Tensta and Rinkeby, two majority immigrant populated areas or first generation Swedes. I frequently did groceries from stores in there, at times you feel uneasy when you have to pass through a couple of groups of 5-10 guys each minding their business but you think what if they mess with you. Thank God that never happened. Even worst when you park the car in garage with poor lighting, walk through that situation with wife and kids, at times in the dark (in winter 3pm Stockholm gets dark), yet never had any single issue. Once i took my colleagues a Swede and rest of us foreigners, 3 Caucasians, 2 South Asians, 1 Chinese to a Pakistani Restaurant in Tensta. It was pretty bright summer day. The food was good and all, we walked through the area to get to/from bus stops, everything went great although I noticed that one of my colleague was kept saying where are we going what are we doing and the other colleague was calming him down, it felt unusual but I though maybe he is not used to blue collar neighborhoods. I didn’t pay much attention. Now I think probably he had heard that he was inside some no-go zones and he was genuinely afraid. Contrary to that my Swedish colleague later on told me that he went there again by himself because the food was great. I’ve experienced that the people who have lived abroad and struggled through the challenges to get to a good life, they have good exposure tolerance to foreign cultures in their homelands or abroad. Those who never left their country for work and study to live with other nationalities, they end up acting in a way that is perceived as racist but I think they just don’t have the comprehension. Bottom line is be wise, be safe, mind your business, don’t try to change people according to your viewpoint, always be respectful, calm, but don’t be judgmental, egoistic, and the worst of all, don’t be an extremist whether religious, political, athletic etc.. Let’s be humans. #LoveForAllHatredForNone ☮️
