@@Schnipp08 You are absolutely right. Sweden also qualified for two Olympics (88, 92) which are U23 tournaments. It shows that Sweden had a larger pool of talent from the end of the 80s. Various national team rankings also clearly show that Sweden has an improved series of results during the late 1980s and towards the middle of the 1990s. The failure of WC 90 is just a result of chance. The competition is fierce. The Crankshaw ranking, which is based on 5-year periods, ranks Sweden 7th in the world during the period 86-89 and 6th between 90-94. These rankings are based on results and not on personal opinion.

is interesting every time Sweden and England was gonna play the oppinion in england was "we will win this easy" even though England had a period of 50 years where they didnt win i think, maybee some friendly game but not competitive games. There wasn't the rules back then regarding bloodied shirts and head wounds - if the big man thinks he can play, get him on the pitch. Still one of the greatest photos ever with the blood seeping down his face, the kit drenched and almost giving a psychotic stare to the cameras. I'm not even English but that photo defined commitment to me as a kid.
