For example, although we should be masters of anti-submarine warfare, the Cameron government officiated over a 'strategic defence and security review', resulting in a complete absence of any aerial ASW capability for many years, a long bureaucratic description for criminal negligence. My comment on Sweden's armed forces are based on what I see, and the belief that she better understands the risk of being unprepared, probably because of her proximity to Russia. Neutrality is no defence. However, I should have qualified it; Britain is very experienced in war, and although there's a risk that the last war may mislead you when a new war starts, there's a lot to learn from past military experience, including that of individual soldiers, airman and sailors, and passing on know-how is part of being effective militarily. In this, at least, Britain has an advantage over Sweden.
