My Swedish grandmother would be appalled at Swedish meatballs served over noodles. 😂Swedes eat potatoes! She used a mix of ground beef, veal and pork and used nutmeg. We always had them served with boiled potatoes and lingonberry jam. Yummy! Definitely a comfort food for me.

My family is from Finland and this was always our comfort food. Your recipe looks great and is almost the same however we didn't put any garlic or nutmeg. We only added all spice , salt and pepper. We ate this with boiled small potatoes and lingonberry jam. This was a staple meal for us. Well done !! :)

Im italian and we always had meatballs in gravy (red sauce). My uncle got married and his wife used to make swedish meatballs, and i absolutely refused to even try them. Smelled weird to me as a kid having only ever had italian style meatballs. Fast forward to when i was in my early 20s i was a cook in a nursing/rehab facility and the residents wanted swedish meatballs so i found a recipe. A very tradtional swedish recipe. I absolutely fell in love with them. They were delish. I made both boiled potates and egg noodles so they had their choice. I prefer the noodles. Couldnt find lingdonberry jam so i used cranberry sauce for a little side. It was so freaking good. Everyone loved them including myself. One of my favs still to this day. I dont put any cheese in them though. Swedish people must be going crazy watching this 😂😂 but hey, to each their own. U can make them however u want, and if they're good, who's to say it's wrong. It's food. Be creative. People need to just CHILL. Cooking is supposed to be fun and enjoyable. i wish people would not be so critical. ❤❤❤

For Noodles I learned a trick Years ago.. That works on any kind of noodles any amount.. Bring water to boil, Salt stir, place noodles in...Bring back to boil Stir a few times, Then set timer 5 minutes...Then turn off Heat let Noodles sit in water 5 minutes.. Drain perfect noodles Everytime. I am going to make this recipe thanks Amy..

I made this recipe tonight. It turned out well and tasty!😊. However, the recipe I found online was a tad confusing. There was no mention of adding the nutmeg though it’s listed in the ingredients. Next, in making the gravy it says to add beef broth which is not listed in the ingredient list. I added the nutmeg to the breadcrumbs and I luckily had beef broth which I added to the gravy. Thanks, Amy! I enjoy your site!

Lingonberry jam....lingonberries grow on a short evergreen shrub in the Arctic tundra throughout the Northern Hemisphere from Eurasia to North America. I have never had it. Ikea is known for their swedish meatballs, not sure if they serve them with the jam or not. Do not have an Ikea where I live. Love your comfort food! 😊❤

I always cook my meatballs in the oven turning them at least twice. I do this because I always make 50 or more. They also are significantly smaller than yours. No frying needed( less grease) in the oven I put them on a rack ( like a cooling rack for cookies) and the grease drips off. I use convection if the oven has that feature- the fan pushes dry air around more. I do save the drippings but pour off most of the fat. My meatballs have onion (finely minced) but no garlic or oregano, but all spice & honey & sour cream is the difference between italian and Swedish. My Italian meatballs are larger. Both have ground pork & beef but the proportions are different 1/3 pork, 2/3 beef for Italian, 1/2 pork 1/2 beef for Swedish. Swedish do have parsley, italian have basil. Swedish have mushrooms too . I serve Swedish with Lingonberry preserves ( IKEA has them) We always used a pasta with italian and egg noodles with Swedish. In Swedish meatballs I add finely 1/2c crushed ritz crackers and 1 egg for every lb. of meat. In Italian meatballs I add 1/2c special K cereal and 1/2 c Italian flavored bread crumbs and 1 egg per lb of meat. Garlic, basil, oregano and Italian seasoning blend and some Parmesan/Romano cheese too.

Never parmesan cheese for sure or any cheese in authentic Swedish meatballs. My grandma would turn over in her grave in Sweden. Its Lingonberry jam. Its tart kinda like cranberry sauce. It can be bought in Ikea.

Definitely an ‘Americanized’ version but it still sounds yummy 😋 My husband’s Swedish grandmother, she was the 1st generation of Swedes in her family to be born in the US, was a very special woman who taught me make many traditional Swedish recipes. I was also fortunate to inherit her cookbooks. The one tradition that she did not pass forward was the inclusion of the lingonberry jam, instead she would make & serve us her homemade orange marmalade jam along with the meal. 😊

My Swedish-born great-grandma made meatballs with diced onion, broken-up pieces of bread, beaten egg, ground meat, salt, and pepper (there are no additional spices in my family's recipes for meatballs or Swedish sausage). She also made a white flour gravy out of flour, water, and a little milk. We had boiled potatoes as a side, and today, I bought lingonberry jam in bulk, but I don't think she could find it in the US back then.

Hi from Sweden this is NOT Swedish meatballs it’s more like italian meatballs with the cheese and garlic. We eat it with potatoes just boiled or mash potatoe with lingonberries mixed raw with some suger and gravy.but I’m sure it’s was tasty it looks yummie

I wonder why Amy scrapes food off the table spoon to make sure she gets every little last bit of it which is fine but she leaves the remnants on her fingers for the longest time while she touches other things. The paper towels are right there and one would think that she would wipe her fingers. But I guess it does something for her to have food hanging on her fingers eww
@alotdifferent Жыл бұрын
Just to be a bit more mindful...I got turned off after seeing you cough in your hand and then use it to mix the meatballs....alot of cross contamination as well from you touching the meat and then touching other things and back in the meat ....no judgment passed ,only improvement
