The interrest hike is caused by inflation, which in turn is caused by the US printing too much $$.

One of many strange and unique things about Sweden is that salaries are basically public. If you want to know what your neighbour is making you can. On the flipside, Swedes *never* talk about what they make with eachother and *definitely not* their co-workers. And salaries are negotiated individually with the employer but are also *never* written out in job postnings like in other countries. Even though it is perfectly legal to do so. I even think it is now mandated (or will be) by the EU (!) Of course. All of this is *great* for the employer and in my opinion, this keeps salaries down in general. I just recently switched jobs and I basically went through most of the recruiting process before the actual salary was even brought up. Which is also normal but completely backwards in this country :)

This is a little misleading. The level 1 is an important marker. Hardly any run of the mill manager gets these salaries. Not even in the biggest companies and banks in Sweden. These salaries are for L1 management which is basically c-suite leadership. So in reality, Swedish salaries for 99% of the top earning sectors are significantly below par when compared to Germany, DK, UK, and ofc US

@@user-bv8px5sb8s Interesting. If salaries are below par when compared to the other countries you mentioned, does Sweden have a problem with brain drain?

You don't go to Sweden to make a lot of money, you go there to raise a family.

You can still make money here. Sure it’s not USA or Switzerland but compared to Europe Sweden is among the better countries in terms of salary and living standards.

When we talk about mortgage interest, when we bought our house in the early 90s, the interest rate was 14 percent. The savings rate was also high, so it paid off to have the money in the bank.

it was also possible to get higher tax deductions of interest rates in the 90s.

Swedish wages are compared to alot of other EU countries compressed; the difference between high and salaries are relatively small. There are pros and cons with this, but i guess that most viewers will find benefit from it.

Thank you for explaning such a difficult matter! Its even more difficult when US dollar and Swedish Kronor goes up and down! However.. my latest knowledge is that salary tax for "median income" is 27% of the nominal salary! Another thing is "employer fees" on top of ones salary.. nothing one botter about.. untill one start a company one self! Its money direct to our goverment and it includes a lot, frome your pension funds, police to our military defens/NATO/EU fees and a lot of goverment things/dutys/royal household/apanage and more! The easyest way to explaine "salary tax" is that one pay 1/3 to the region how is the healtcare provider/public transportation/cultur.. other region responsibilitys! And one pay 2/3 to ones comunity.. that provide ones local administration/bureaucracy/waste managment/roads/water/often even local electricity grid and a social office to check if there is people in need, especialy children! Its still bills for water/electricity/waste management/sometimes roads if one is a home owner.. its a menance to explain.. but normal many that lives in sweden! Soo.. living in sweden and paying taxes one invest in the swedish society.. to make it good to live in sweden, as posible! Soooo, there is no Golden Visa scheme.. its kinda the same as in other comparable european northwest EU/EFTA countrys,. like all Nordics, UK, Germany, Benelux, France.. you get it! And then mayby an importante question, do your skills/education get recognised in sweden and make you an high salary employee? Yale and Oxford is easy, many other US and European universitys! There is a bunch of IT experts frome India in sweden at Spotify and Klarna and other big bussines! For those companyes it could be more importante to speak english fluently, and be able to switch between british english USA english and asian english! Its still this that even if one have all those degrees and qualifications.. one can get social isolated.. so one supose to learn swedish for ones social life anyhow! Talk to ones neigbours and so on! Talk to ones children if they grow up in sweden!😅

Do you have to file taxes in Sweden like in the US if you're an employee?
@Lambdarevolution86
@Lambdarevolution86 Күн бұрын
You do have to file taxes but it's not complicated at all, you get a statement of the goverments calculation and you can just sign it and be done with it. If you dont agree with their calculation or you have write offs, deductions etc you simply add them but for many of us we just need to sign it takes 10 seconds to complete.

I must unfortunately say that the IT average payment is actually less, working with unemployed and my profession is within IT at a government department in south Sweden, same altitude as Stockholm but in a smaller city. Almost every IT staff here earns around 35000-41000, I may be a lot over that but not most.
