Uodate: If you experience "puckering" lower by 10* increments until it stops happening, there is too much heat. For my press I have it at 120* for 5 min now, turn off and leave in for at least 48hrs.
@1111Tarah6 жыл бұрын
So should I put the books that have puckering back in at 120 for 5 and leave for 48 hrs? Or are they ruined? Thank You!!

Fantastic and the only video anyone needs to watch and learn with, on pressing paper items! I was in the custom framing business for a decade and pressed thousands of items and your step by step video is by far the best example I have seen of how to carefully press an item for maximum results. Anyone who watches this need only to follow your examples on a few cheap copies and they will be amazed at the results that can be attained this way.

I have a quick question... do you put every age comic in the moisture bath? I've heard people putting modern in a moisture bath but use a hand held steamer for older books. If you put all age books in a heat press I think that's important to mention if you are having success.
@johnlangham2574 жыл бұрын
Did you use distilled water in your humidity chamber ?

Nice process. I use a garment steamer for ease of use and pinpoint application. I work with my local shop so they provided me with a short box of ragged books. I worked the temps and steam on those books for about 3 weeks until I was able to turn lumps of junk into some really decent examples. Already Fine or better books can be made to jump 2 grades if you are really skilled. Between that and dry cleaning I am up to my ears in work thanks to the shop and testimonials from shop customers who I've done work for. I also have very decent prices and never up charge for key or high dollar books.

So how many pages in did you end up needing to put Teflon to prevent pages from sticking?

Great video - thanks. I DO have a question about the cut aluminum (or tin...i forgot) you mentioned for the bottom plate. Do you have it cut a bit smaller than the rubber mat or the same size, or larger where that piece creates the new bottom? Trying to figure out if it makes the bottom of the press (back cover size) still pliable and spongy or does it make the bottom rigid and does that put too much pressure on the book. thanks
@purplepeopleeater91406 жыл бұрын
Gno_B_Neno I cut it the same size as the mat.

@@SweelyRehabs I'm finding that you need to be careful using the humidity chamber on modern books. I sort of ruined a book (luckily was worthless issue) - the pages got stuck together and ink gets transferred from one page to the other. Anyways, i always skip the humidity chamber step for modern books now
@Trebliw85 жыл бұрын
The Sweely Life one more question: did you ever have an issue with books coming out of your press with waviness? It usually happens to me with the older books that use the newsprint paper.

I bought a press just like yours, went pretty much exactly same steps as you detailed, but all the comics I pressed looked great after just one pressing...except they all have a wavyness to them now. You can really see it from the top and bottom edge. So no more creases but just traded them for another defect. Ever encountered this phenomenon? And yes I did the cold press over night.

I have had the same problem with some books but others are fine. I lowered the temp to 145* and started to leave it in the press for 5min with heat on. Turn it off and let it sit in there for a week if necessary. A slight wave in the cover i have not had cgc count off so far. They will take off for "puckering" though.
@purplepeopleeater91406 жыл бұрын
Left a book in 145* for 10 min and turn off heat then sit in press for 2 weeks. It had a lot of puckering that would not come out, that did the trick and now lays flat.
