"Perhaps today you gave a nod to Sweeney Todd." A terrifying but accurate statement.

This performance "in concert" was better than most staged performances. (See the opening if you can. Lincoln Center. 2014) I still can't believe that the movie entirely removed "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" moments.

So this song happens after Sweeney kills off the "pie making" lady after he throws her and locks her in a retort, incinerating her, and comes back to her original lover. embraces her, and then Toby, coming from behind stealthily, possesses Sweeney's dropped shaving razor unbeknownst to Mr. Todd, and then slits Sweeney's neck, causing Sweeney to die right in her arms, and Toby goes away. This leads to the ballad of the story of that barber-villain here.

Emma Thompson is absolutely amazing but she sort of swallows one of the most important lines in the whole show. Also what's up with the most anticlimactic exit ever? It's like they were like, meh ok we're done bye bye. Honestly I think this production is a little ham-fisted, and it kinda ruins it for me.

@@joed180There is a door slam. Try to find the 1982 performance with Angela Lansbury and George Hearn. It happens at the end

@@Girl-rj3qeThat’s what we’re talking about. This and other productions lack it, and it’s hard are accept it any other way. Or else, without *some* kind of punctuated ending.
