I never understood the lyric change in this version. In the original (and in most productions) it’s “you’re about to see something that rose from the dead....on the top of my head!” while here it’s “I was once bald as an egg but just look at me now.... wouldja like to know how?” Not really sure why they changed it here, the normal line is funnier.

Agreed, the new line is a really awkward fit with the music. I think it might have to do with the wig he's wearing? Usually his "hair" is a lot longer in this scene, so maybe they felt the original line didn't fit if he only had slightly-longer-than-normal hair. Or alternatively, they were trying to cut the show down for the touring production. The entire "Scarcely a month ago, gentlemen..." section is gone, so the new line is trying to explain all of that information as quickly as possible.
