This era of Sweet was not my older sister's version. This was the borderline heavy metal Sweet that I really liked. I cannot dispute so many of you here that "this isn't Sweet" or "no Brian, no Mick, no Steve, no Sweet" attitude, but at this point, Brian was no longer able to perform coherently, Steve had moved to the U.S., and Mick had recently left. Andy was smart for turning to a hard rock sound for the band, as the musical climate had blown the lighter rock sound Sweet had been known for out of favor with the general public. McNulty had been playing with the band for some time, had the hard rock vocal chops, and he was a huge step over Adam Ant/Peter Gabriel lovechild Paul Mario Day. This sure wasn't "classic" Sweet, but it was Sweet who changed with the times. Peace, John

The thing is, Saxon did a version in '84, that I discovered in the mid 90's after learning Saxon was still around. I'd never heard it before and loved it! then a coworker told me it was originally Sweet. I checked the studio version out but after LOVING Saxon's version, Sweet's version, although I liked it, wasn't doing it for me. Hearing this version today is RIGHT ON! This is the way it should have been done and I feel this compares to Saxon's. BTW, been a fan of Sweet since I was 7 in 1974 and my Mom had Ballroom Blitz on a 45 with Restless as a B-side. Played it over and over on a portable, fold out, single speaker record player over and over, scratches and all. Probably drove my Mom nuts! Bought the album years ago but never listened to the whole thing so I missed this song!

No, Priest never did speed metal. They did some prog stuff and a bit of new wave influenced music though, as well as a NWOBHM sound. Also, this song wasn't speed metal either originally. It was just heavy metal. This version is sped up from the original on the album.
@ericrivera94153 жыл бұрын
@@camerondodge2070 Of course Judas tackled speed metal. Exciter, Call the Priest, Genocide(live1979) and Dissident Aggressor are indisputably prime examples of them pulling it off. And those songs were pre-NWOBHM too.
@ericrivera94153 жыл бұрын
@@camerondodge2070 Ignore. Keep reading if you want. Just throwing out some history. Their first album is the only and I mean, ONLY example of prog in their discography; and to their credit, all those songs were throwaways written by the previous vocalist, Al Atkins. If it weren’t for Gull records, Rocka Rolla would not exist. The prog element was issued by the label.
