I think most people generally regard sweet and sour pork as a completely Chinese-American concoction. And, maybe, dismiss it because of that. Treating it as some sort of fabrication. But, it definitely has Cantonese roots. And, even if it were completely Chinese-American, what would it matter?

It's a fallacy this is made in America. In Malaysia and Singapore it is plentiful and common. It is indeed a Cantonese dish.

Love the video. However, some of the translation is slightly off. Mama Cheung is not saying that her daughter is proud of her own skill in making the dish, but that her daughter is boasting about her ability to make the dish.

Funny how during the presentation at 0:56 is is one table spoon of ketchup and when assembling the dish at 3;13 is has become 2 table spoons :) Also, I am wondering how Cantonese people did before ketchup was imported from the USA.

We did fine. Ketchup is Chinese. It’s a Chinese sauce. Ketchup is a literal translation of tomato sauce in Cantonese. Look it up.

@@vdubs17 But according to what I have been reading, traditional ketchup had nothing to do with what has been used in the recipe demonstrated in the video, it was more akin of fish sauce.
