You can tell from the way your Dad moves that he's made this a million times... These are the KZbin videos I like to watch. Don't just show me the recipe (google can find that anywhere), show me the technique from a master. He is such a gem and you are awesome for capturing it. And as others have said, the production quality is really great.

I just made this tonight and it was AMAZING! Seriously tastes exactly like takeout, I was shocked. The pork is juicy and crispy and the sauce is sticky and flavorful. Some tips for anyone who is planning on trying this: - I tripled the recipe which was good for five people. I did about 30oz meat and 2.5x the sauce. I used about half each pepper and onion. - I added a little extra sugar to the sauce because the vinegar was a bit strong for me! - I tried both Pork Shoulder and Pork Belly and pork belly is much better! It’s juicer, not as chewy, and has more flavor. However the fat can be delicate so be more careful than I was or you’ll get some wonky shapes lol. - I have no idea where they got 7 to 8 minutes for the first frying time. My oil was around 330° - 350° and I had them in there for 1-2 minutes and it was plenty. I checked and they were fully cooked and golden. Then they crisp up in the second fry! - I also cooked my vegetables longer because they’re going to be raw after 30 seconds. I still had them crunchy but just gave them longer. Overall it’s really really delicious!! It would pair really well with some noodles. Thanks so much for the recipe!

咕嚕肉 another famous dish in Chinese family, it's really appetising with the sweet and sour sauces especially for kids. Hereby, I wanna adding some tips to be aware when cooking. Firstly, when you refried the meat second time for crispness, remember to keep stirring it, due to the temperature are high it's easy to be over cooked, and the second fried could help to force the oil out from the meat. Secondly, when cooking the sauces, cooked it on low temperature especially for someone who are new on cooking, it will overcooked very fast if your temperature are too high. I also will recommend for rookie, you could add slightly more water in the sauces when cooking an add some corn flour water before adding the adding vegetables and meats. 😁

Sweet and sour pork was my introduction to Chinese food as a teen in the early 80’s ( as it was for many Europeans in our part of the world). It is still a firm favourite in the family. I have made it once at home and though the recipe I used was good it was not quite right. Can’t wait to try this version. I love daddy Lau’s recipes.

I tried this recipe today and it was an instant hit with all my family and friends. the double frying delivered an amazing "wok hee" smell and taste, The sauce is simply perfect. My neighbour who is a big fan of this dish said that she fancied nothing else but sweet and sour dish when she smelled what I was cooking.. Sent her a serve and she totally devoured then raved about it. I just wanna say thank you very much to your Dad and your entire family for posting and showing such an amazing recipe. I myself never really have much interests in sweet & sour dishes, I tried it today and I must admit I really liked it.. Please say thank you to your Dad for me.. God bless you all. cheers.

Did the pork get soft and not crispy anymore after mixing with the sauce?

I just made this (as per my new tradition of trying each new recipe the weekend it's uploaded) and this recipe received RAVE reviews! I ended up using an air fryer instead of deep frying, and it turned out amazing. Another recipe to add to my collection. Keep up the great work Lau family!

Just made this recipe for my family tonight! I'm 39 years old and this is the best sweet and sour pork I have ever eaten in my life!! My kids and husband gobbled it up and can't stop talking about how good it was. Thank you so much for sharing your food wisdom with us!!

The dish looks amazing. Your dad remind me of my folks. I really enjoy the recipes and listening to the instructions in my traditional dialect. Thanks. BTW - my mom use to make sweet and sour pork with haw flakes (chinese red disk candy). Would love to hear you dad comment on haw flakes. Thanks

Omg this is amazing! I can't eat gluten so I subbed the flour and soy sauce with a gf version and it turned out exactly the way I remember this tasting! There isn't too many dishes I miss since being diagnosed with celiac, but this one was on the top of my list. I've tried a couple different versions of sweet and sour pork but none of them came close to this. Thank you!

I slight addition: before Heinz, british ketchup used tomato and pepper scraps with no vinegar, and actually spoiled so fast that it almost fell out of favor completely for causing illness. The creator of Heinz came up with the idea to use vinegar and fresher ingredients and market it on that, causing a resurgence.

I ♥️ your mom. She speaks my mind 😆 I thought I was weird for liking the dish to be a little soggy. Thanks for sharing the recipe and techniques!

One good substitute for your Patreon supporters is cauliflower. In fact, the dish Gobi Machurian in Indian cooking is an adaptation of sweet and sour pork. In fact, same form of preparation, with a little less frying time.

Thank you so much for this recipe. Growing up, this was always my favourite dish and I've never figured out how to make it at home. I appreciate this recipe without the red food coloring. Simple ingredients that I actually have at home. I'm excited to try this..thank you Randy for the history lesson and for the new tip list format. So informative, interesting and brings back so many childhood memories.

Been waiting for this! 🤤 Gonna try it this weekend. Btw is it possible to make good roast duck at home? Looking forward to more soup and claypot recipes. Cheers! Note: Tried it. The fried pork meat came out crunchy / crispy. Fried twice (1st lower temp for 7 minutes and 2nd high temp for 1 minute). It helps to cut the meat wide and thinner to ease frying.

I always figured “ketchup” had Chinese origins... “ke” (tomato) “chup “ (sauce)...

I was thinking about how weird it was that it was so similar! It’s not very often that the English language borrows from Chinese, so I didn’t expect that to be the case!

Ke is from Cantonese "fan ke" meaning tomato. Chap is sauce in Cantonese.
