Skipping the basics is like trying to learn to walk without crawling first. But i guess as long as you pick the strings with the correct fingers you should be fine

I started in around november and this song is basically on the easy side atm.... Start off with something simple like James Arthur - say you wont let go

KYLO that’s a little more on the advanced side. don’t start straight away with a fingerstyle song, you should obviously learn the basics of the guitar first like the parts, the strings, etc. after that you can learn some basic chord progressions like g, c, am and d. you can play a few songs with those.

Started: November 16, 2021 Perfected: Im going to practice this song everyday until I play it well. I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the guitar and I’m going to pull through it for real this time until the end. No more giving up, it’s time 🙌 Update: January 10, 2023 (for those asking) in my replies: Like any other time. I gave up. I started uni and the motivation and time to sit down and learn this song flew out the window and replaced with other things to do. BUT, this next time coming into it I come with more certainty, confidence, and motivation. Life is fucking life. Shit happens, and when we get torn down and stop chasing what we seek we inevitably fail... that time. Learn from failures and comeback stronger. Thats my goal this time around. I hope I didn't let anyone else down... and to those working on other goals too, I believe in ya'll. We got this.

It's so that you stay in tune if you improvise with a solo, finger picking variations, the full chord, whatever. :) Also if you accidentally strike another string it will still sound okay. It's a good habit to learn!
