Welcome to the #SkynyrdNation Dani :) That was just the way Ronnie was, he was just a southern boy liked to fish and spend time with family and make music. It was very rare anything affected him much. RIP Ronnie. The solo at the end was Ed King, he didn't ever get near he credit he deserved at the time for how great he was.
@texasskyliner7042 жыл бұрын
That was Steve Gaines performing the end solo, not Ed King. King had already left Skynyrd. Gains was a phenomenal guitarist.
@texasskyliner7042 жыл бұрын
Actually, the very last solo was Allen Collins. Steve Gaines was on the Strat before Collins, who was on the Explorer.

I remember getting up for school when I was in 11th grade in Bowie Md. Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of my favorite bands at the time. The radio station DC 101 played a couple of their songs in a row which wasn't unusual for that station. They had 2 for Tuesday,...or 3 for Thursday promos all the time from popular bands. After about the 4th song in a row,.. I knew something wasn't right. When the DJ came back on we heard the devastating news,......remember that was way before the internet so you had to hear the news in bits and pieces. And remember Dani,...Elvis had just died 2 months earlier.,....so sad for so many fans.

I was 19 when they did this concert, they were/are one of my favorite bands, my only regret is never having seen them in concert. Love to see young people like you reacting to great music, keep up the good work.

I totally enjoy watching youngsters react to music that I grew up with, and is still my favorite genre and era, the 70's is it. This concert in Oakland is my all time favorite live performance by any band, be it in person or on video. There finale of "Free Bird" on that day is an absolute must watch video. 😊✌

They where so good live, that when they opened for the Stones in the U.K. , the Stones had to wait longer to go on stage after "Freebird" cause the crowd was so wound up. I’ve been to seven of their concerts beginning in 1975 and they always play the songs virtually note for note, just like you heard it on the radio or album! It’s really hard to watch these old ones and knowing that Ronnie Van Zant (singer), Steve Gains (2nd to the last lead guitar solo) and his sister (one of the backup singers) died in the 1977 plane crash along with the pilot and co-pilot!

Happy Easter Dani! Thanks for reacting to my request. This song was played in My Junior High and High School dances and in Skating Rinks. I graduated High School in 1982. In College at Parties etc everytime this was played everyone would sing along. One of my best college friends was from New Jersey. She was with me when everyone started singing this song and Hank Williams Junior Song Family Tradition. I told her they were Southern Anthems and in North Carolina you just sang the songs. She said she had noticed it at several places in her college parties.

Great great song and band! No one can touch their talent! Such a shame that barley two months later tradgedy would strike. The lead singer Ronnie VanZant, guitarist Steve Gaines in the red pants and looks like shaggy from scooby doo (lol), his sister backup singer Cassie Gaines (middle girl in the black top), the bands manager and the pilot and copilot all died when the bands plane crashed and many other members had horrible injuries that took years to recover from. Some never fully recovered.. It's erry to see Steve playing right in front of his sister. RIP. MUST DO freebird from this very same concert. It will blow you away.
